Sony Grand WEGA KDF-50WE655 50 in. HDTV LCD TV

This is our first HD television. My brother-in-law has similar model Sony in 55 inch that is a year older. You can definitely tell that the picture is better on this KDF-50WE655. I printed some of the prices from Internet and took them with me to the largest TV retailer in the area. The salesman knocked $600 off the marked price. While I was there, I looked at other brands and also checked out the plasma sets. If I stood directly in front of this 50 incher and then stood in front of a plasma model, I could not see any difference except for the price tag which was about $4000 more for the Plasma. I could see the difference if I got off to one side or the other. Plasma does have a wider viewing area. At my house, we still directly in front of the TV and when viewed from the dining area, we are also directly in front of it. It would not be worth it for us to put out the extra money for Plasma.

The picture on this thing is just unbelievable! I like to tune it to the Discovery channel and just look at the scenery. Often I will turn to my wife and say "just look at that picture!" I have it hooked up to the cable directly and then have another connection going through the DVR cable tuner so we can watch one channel and record two others on the DVR at the same time, all in High Definition. I also have it hooked up to a combination DVD/VHS recorder, two DVD players and the stereo system. There is like a million connections on the back of this Sony; cable, UHF/VHF, RCA jacks, S-Video, HDMI, PCM/Dolby, etc. It even has a cable card slot if you need to use that. It also has 2 sets of connections on the front for S-Video and RCA input for games and attachment of your camcorder. You can hook up just an amazing amount of things to this HDTV. Sony really went all-out with this one. On a scale of one to five, I would give it a 6!
