I purchased a second Sony Ericsson z500a for my younger teenager because I was so satisfied with the first one I bouhgt six months ago for my older daughter. We had been through THREE Motorolas in the span of three months or so before we purchased the z500s.
The z500s may be a bit bigger and a bit heavier than the usual clamshell flip phones available everywhere today, but they're certainly more hardy for it. Important point if this will be a teenager's phone!
The buttons are a decent size as are the front and inner screens. It's pretty easy to use overall. It does sometimes get less than stellar reception on our island, but I think that's for lack of enough towers. Covers are available and just slip on and off. It has games, a camera, a recorder and you can download ringtones. It holds a charge pretty well, even for non-stop teenaged talking and texting!
I'd give the z500 a solid 95 out of a 100.
