Great phone but suffers issues w/ Macs/proprietary conn

I've had a Sony Ericsson phone since 2001 when I got a bluetooth T68i to control iTunes and DVD Player on my Mac.

In March of 2006, I switched from Z610a to the W600i Walkman phone.

After a few short hours I noticed 5 things:

1) This phone has very limited Mac support because apparently it handles bluetooth just slightly differently due to the DRM that Sony injects into the music functionality of the phone. Sony does not allow you to play the music over the bluetooth and this overlaps into all bluetooth transmissions. While it will sync with bluetooth headsets, it has problems connecting to Apple Computers for anything other than file transfer and syncing of contacts.

2) The charging, syncing connector is new to the Walkman phones ... all of my old and (found in most stores) connectors will not work with this phone. You also MUST use the headphone adapter Sony provides in order to use the FM radio function. The adapter comes off easily and adds bulk to the phone

3) 256MB built in isn't really sufficient for holding enough music and for holding a reasonable amount of photos.

4) I really hate all of the bloat that Sony puts on it's phones. Pictures, themes and ringtones that you cannot remove from memory to free up space.

5) The odd way the phone opens is annoying.

Things I like about the phone:

I love the sound that comes from the built in speakers and I love the MP3 ringtones.

I will be holding on to this phone until Apple comes out with a phone and then at that point I will be switching!

Cingular sent me a w600i in replacement of my old s710a. I am enjoying more than my s710a becuase of the size and some other features...Here's what I thought.

Pros.
World Phone
MP3 Player is better than iTunes
Great screen resolution
Speakerphone is amazing
Ringtones amazingly loud
EDGE speeds
1.3 mp camera, takes great pics
Cool software included, Like video DJ
3D games capabilites
video is above average
flashlight

Cons.
Swivel takes some getting used to
keypad lights are boring
camera not very good at night
no expandable memory

Pros out weight the cons by a thousand. this is really good phone, especially for the price. So what, it is disconinued, its been out for a while, but is by far alot better than most of the current phones cingular has to offer.

Over all is a good phone, looks cool, the GUI is really friendly, sound quality is awesome. The Cons are the lack of expandable memory, the weird keypad, and the camera button that sometimes gets stuck.

I have had this phone for a few months and I love it It has all of the great features plus a mp3 player I have downloaded 4 complete cds and still have alittle room left. on the negative side if you don't lock the phone you can bump the internet button and not know you are on the web and being charged for it. And the only other thing is it is a little bulky I have had flip phones in the past. I sent back my terrible razr phone, I hated it.

  I loved this phone

I owned this phone and was heartbroken when it got destroyed, (I ended up getting a different version of the walkman but i didn't like it as much.) I had plenty of room for music and pictures, I transferred most of my pictures to my PDA, only keeping my favorites on the phone, I had enough music on it to go to work and not get bored hearing the same song over and over, the radio had better reception than my house stereo and the headphones were noise canceling and very comfortable to me, it was nice to be able to relax listening to my music or radio and not hear my 2 teenagers squabbling, I loved the graphics on the screen and the flashlight was very handy when I got out of work, unlocking my car or home after dark, and being able record different things to act as a ringtone for each person was fun, wasn't stuck with having to choose a ringtone, for instance I had my friends say "Hey it's Me! Pick up the phone!" and attached it to their contact info. was fun to see the expressions of people when my phone rang. they would usually look for the "third person" in the area or would look around for the person talking. That is why I am here looking for another one.

First the negative stuff:
About the only negatives I can think of (isn't that what you're reading this for???) are that the memory is not removable, and the reception seems to go down a little if you have the phone unfolded (which means the antenna is on the bottom of the phone by your hand). You'll probably want a screen protector, as this screen is always exposed, as opposed to a flip phone where the screen is protected more.

Positive stuff:
Everything else. The nicest thing about this phone (besides the reception) is the AM/FM radio. It picks up stations that my radio at work does not, and the headphones that are included work great. They even include 3 sets of rubber pieces so that you can change them depending on your ear size. They also include a USB cable for data transfer, that also charges your phone through your computer!

Overall:
Very cool looking phone, I have received several compliments on it and we've only had it for a week. Having said that, I have only had it for a week, so take this review from a novice's point of view.

Enjoy!
