Sony Ericsson K850i Cyber-shot (Unlocked)

The K850i improves significantly on the Cybershot K790i it replaces. Though on the surface it looks like a face-lifted version of the K790i and K800i, inside there's a lot of good new stuff going on: the 5MP camera with improved still images and much improved video, quad band phone rather than triband, worldwide 3G with HSDPA, the new media player (we love the interface), improved music player, Bluetooth A2DP and a much brighter and a bit bigger display. This is a phone it's hard not to like.

Pro: Great camera with faster camera performance than the N95, fantastic display, excellent Bluetooth with a large selection of profiles and good range, has both M2 and microSD card slots. Good battery life for a 3G phone with a Xenon flash. Finally, standard call send and end buttons on a Sony Ericsson phone!! Phone is responsive and stable, good HTML browser by feature phone standards. Supports MS Exchange and push email.

Con: Keypad isn't good for heavy texters. Great touch controls, but funky d-pad. Nighttime and dim scene imaging on automatic setting is not good. Fast port connector instead of 2.5 or 3.5mm stereo jack (why do we still have to buy a high-end Walkman phone to get this??). HSDPA speeds could be better. Dust specs come and go under the clear plastic that protects the lens cover and lens.

This has got to be the best Sony ericsson cell phone that I have the luxury of owning thus far. With all of the advances in cell phone technologies such as touch screens, wifi, gps, pda capabilities, and expanded memory most phone companies tend to produce a line of phones with all of the latest feature however they also manage to not exceed at any of these features.

Sony ericsson K850i sports a 5-MP camera with a xenon flash. I also have a Nokia-95 8 gb with a 5mp camera and the sharpness is nowhere near the cybershot quality. The xenon flash lets you take sharp picture even in low light or pure darkness. In addition, this phone has the best voice quality of any cell phone out there. As phone become more advanced and integrated into our lifestyles they tend to be more feature packed at the cost of voice quality and basic phone capabalities. This sony manages to give you the best voice quality, awesome music quality on the loud speaker, and is packed with 3G capable applications.

BOTTOM LINE: Great phone and overwhelmingly underated which is good since it keeps the price down. Make your choice: buy a $600 Nokia N-series that is sluggish and akward or this Sony Ericsson k850i for 1/3 of the price with all the same features.

Overall, the K850i is a great phone, long battery life with great features. The flash light added 5 mega pixels camera is one of the best features of this phone, also comes many great camera feature like the "best Picture" option and other functions that the Sony has offer to its digital cameras.

The only thing that I don't really like about the this phone is the, shortcut key or direction key wherever that you may prefer to call it, and the number keys. These keys are little bit small and a bit pointy. In fact, personally I like the key pad from my girlfriend's S500i from Sony Ericsson, if S500i's key pad can transfer over to the K850i, this phone will be perfect.

Nice phone works good but unlocked version has some problems with email and applications. I would recommend to buy one directly from a U.S. location with preset U.S. settings if you live in the U.S. Camera is nice but it doesn't take as nice of pictures as you would expect from a 5 megapixel camera. Center d pad is tricky to navigate if you have big fingers and the touch screen did not work 100% of the time. Also phones internet browser applications did not work 100% of the time. I also encountered the phone freezing during applications and sometimes encountered loss of memory. For a highline camera phone I give it an average rating with all the other aspects and the problems I encountered. Maybe I got the bad model too or maybe others have experienced the same problems. The phone has a nice feel and nice looks and does serve it's purpose. I myself would recommend the C902 which also is a 5MP camera phone at the same price not as nice looking but a much better quality, better applications and overall performance.
