The Sony Ericsson K800i is the first 3G phone in Sony Ericsson's Cyber-Shot range of camera phones. It's the best of the Cyber-Shot phones so far, and in my opinion, the best camera phone available at the time of release. At 3.2 megapixels, the K800i's camera has the highest resolution available.

Whilst large and a little brick-like, the K800i is beautifully built and finished. It's clearly a solidly constructed phone that should last well.

The music player on the K800i is of very good quality. It's an easy-to-use player that supports playlists. There's also a stereo RDS FM radio. Sound quality by the built-in speakers is good, but doesn't match that of the Sony Ericsson W900i.

This is not just an amazing camera phone but a good allrounder. The only disadvantages in my opinion include the large size, fiddly keypad, and the camera cover that slides off too easily. Other than that, this is one of the best buys around at the moment!

  Carrying on the legacy
Review created: 08/12/06

Sony Ericsson has gone on to partner with Sony Electronics to introduce, for the first time, a Cybershot phone with 3.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, the K800i. Unlike its predecessors, the K800i comes complete with a host of new and
useful features that everyone would appreciate.

It's a Camera, a Phone and an MP3 Player

Despite all the marketing surrounding camera phones, the fact of the matter is that most, especially 2.0-megapixel camera phones, are unable to reproduce the same quality capture as a standalone digital camera of similar pixel count. The key difference between the two lies in image noise (grains) and this inadequacy of camera phones is all the more evident when pictures are taken in poorly lit environments.

Blurring from handshakes is also more pronounced compared to standalone digital cameras because camera phones only have very basic imaging components. With the K800i however, Sony Ericsson finally has a camera phone that can truly boast imaging quality comparable to compact digital cameras.

Besides supporting a higher resolution of 3.2-megapixel, the K800 is also fitted with Sony's Super Steady Shot (SSS) anti-handshake technology, thereby giving it an edge over competition. Due to mechanical constraints, the K800i does not come with the sort of optical zoom as those found in say the new Cybershot T30. What it does have is 16x digital zoom. Sadly, it doesn't feature the infamous Carl Zeiss lens that almost all Cybershot cameras have.
Happily however, the K800 has auto-focus (infinite, normal and macro), which should give it better focusing property than traditional camera phones.

Besides sharing some scene modes (eg. Auto, Twilight Portrait, Twilight Landscape, Landscape, Portrait, Beach/Snow, Sports, and Document) with a number of Cybershot cameras, the K800 also lets you take photos with cool effects such as negative and "cartoony" frames. Interestingly, the K800i has several imaging related functions such as BestPic, effects, frames and panorama (via stitching) that even most Cybershot cameras lack.

The BestPic mode is particularly handy, as it captures a series of eight photos in quick succession and lets you pick and save the one you are most satisfied with while the rest is discarded automatically to conserve limited memory space.

Considering the multitude of functions the K800i supports within its handy frame, we were mightily impressed by how well image noise (grains) were suppressed in our sample shots – although fuzzy spots were visible. Details on the other hand disappointed slightly and not quite as comparable to digital cameras of similar pixel count. Overall color reproduction was satisfactory though, making it one of the best camera phones till date. However, for photo printouts, especially to a size of A4, we recommend that pictures are first processed for sharpening and noise reduction

It's a Camera and More

The K800i is a fun phone to have and we recommend it for those who don't want to carry two separate devices. Feature wise, the K800 is quite similar to the K750 with the exception of 3G video calls and RSS that mobile warriors would especially when moving about. The only gripe we had was the low 15FPS of its video recording mode. In a nutshell, the Sony Ericsson K800i has almost all the features you would want in a modern nifty device.

  sony ericsson k800i
Review created: 01/08/08

The K800i has the K790a's same brilliant 262,144-color display that measures two inches diagonally (240x320 pixels). Below the display is the navigation array, which is similar as well. The five-way joystick doubles as a shortcut to four user-defined functions, while the two soft keys open the recent-calls list and the main menu when the phone is in standby mode. There are also dedicated Back and Clear buttons, a key that launches the Web browser, and a nifty control that opens a submenu of user-defined shortcuts and a list of upcoming calendar events. Overall the navigation controls were tactile and easy to use, but they are somewhat squashed together. The backlit keypad buttons were a nice change, however, from previous Sony Ericssons. Rectangular in shape, they are large enough for most hands and are raised just above the surface.

first of all, let me start off my saying that this phone is great! i gave it a 5 out of 5 becuase this phone is what every other cam phone should have, A REAL FLASH! this phone has one of the current most powerful camaras on it, a 3.2 mega pixel camara, with a equiped xenon flash! the flash works just like a real cam and it really does help out alot.

getting away from the cam function of the phone, i can say that every other aspect of the phone is just as great. sony ericsson has lately been pushing the envelope with there new line of phones and this one is no different.

Bottom line is, if you are looking for a phone that has GREAT functionality with a power ful camera, then this phone is for you! i highly recccommend this phone! A+++++

  Another awesome SE phone
Review created: 09/04/06

Just got this phone for about a couple of weeks. Traded my K750i for K800i. When I was using the K750, I thought that phone was simply awesome, until I got the k800 which is more awesome. Built on the same friendly OS it is as powerful as its predecessor with even brighter and bigger screen, AND a 3.2 MP camera.Wow.
THe phone's functionality are simply flawless from the MP3 to the camera, to the phone itself.
The only bummer is the new memory stick M2 format. As if we do not have enough formats to choose from Sony comes out with this M2. So far it is new, so prices are kinda steep. BTW, SE went stingy this time and did NOT include an M@ with the package (they did include built-in 64MB in the phone though)

For the Cingular customers, watch for the K790a that will be offered through Cingular with 850MHZ rather than the 900MHZ. However you loose its international functionality.

  Excelent phone by far so far watch out M2 mem expensive

I think SE did a very good phone this time. Its not long since its been released so not enought time to check on software bugs etc, however I do beleieve that this phone is the best that ever released from any company. For example its relatively small for pocket with large bright screen and brilliant quality. It has evertyhing a user can ask for. 65MB internal memory, codes file (to save your bank or other pins and codes that you easily can forget), MMS, SMS, video conference, 3G, ecxelent colours, games that can even make your PSP stay at home, playability, duarbility, camera, battery durability is fair for so many functions, calculator, a very good internet support on many sites including the official, nice touch and construction based on velevet feeling. And finaly the 3,2 MP for taking photos. I am sure that when you will try to get a photo at night you will be so impressed about the quality. I have tried it on my vacations when my digital cam (7,1MP) run out of battery and my k800i was there for me. The picture quality was amazing. Nice shots even at night no red eyes, stable fuction etc. The negative parts are that the joystick is still not enough to play games with the volume and the quality of music played from the speakers and headphones isnt of the best expecting quality. I would expect a better walkman fuction from Sony. Unfortunately the quality of the hands free given is not the best and finaly the photo cover is not positioned in a conviniend and safe place. It should be made to open harder and not everytime you put it inside your pocket there are good chance to find the lense cover on. I think thats all. Also and I leaved it for the end, I must protest about the M2 memory stick that is way too very expensive comparing to other phones memory cards. That I think is the weakest point of that cell phone. Overally the best quality phone you can have so far and by far. I dont think someone will need another phone for the next 2-3 years.

I bought the used Sony ericsson k800i a few weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 3.2M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The usedPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 4 hours. My only complaint is that the menu system on the phone makes you click four times before you can find someone in the address book, set an alarm, or perform a additional functions. .

  Sony Ericsson K800i Cyber-shot
Review created: 12/09/08(updated 12/09/08)

THE PHONE
~~~~~~~~~~~
On first appearances, the phone looks quite smart. The one I have is black in colour but it is also available in brown and silver. The keys on the front of the phone look quite small and close together and I initially thought this would be a problem but they are infact easier to use then those of my previous phone which were spaced further apart. The rear of the phone looks just as smart as the front. Here you will find the 3.2 mega pixel camera, Xenon flash and a speaker phone.
THE CAMERA
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The camera is called a Cybershot camera. It is 3.2 mega pixels and takes a good quality photo. The camera can be accessed by sliding the metal cover back that is on the rear of the phone. As soon as you do this the phone automatically switches to camera mode so you do not have to search through a menu to select it.
The Xenon flash is like that of a proper camera and not just an LED light like you get on a lot of older phones. It can be switched off completely, set to flash automatically and also has a red-eye reduction feature.
There are several options with the camera itself. You can switch between camera and video mode at the touch of a button and film short video for sending in an MMS or film as long as you want as you would with an ordinary camcorder. The more free memory on your phone the longer you can make your film. There are also the usual camera effects such as sepia, black and white, solarize, etc. You can choose to take pictures in either portrait or landscape and alter the size of the pictures.
My favourite feature on the camera is the frames that you can add around your photo.
I have taken quite a few photos, some during the day when it is bright, some in the evening when it is duller and even some in the dark and every single one has been perfect. I cannot fault this camera.

THE SCREEN
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The screen is a nice size and I have had no problems seeing anything on it. It can be personalised to your taste either by using the preset themes and images or by using your own.
3G
~~~
The K800i is a 3G phone which means it can be used for video calling. There is a very small camera just above the display screen that is used for this so you do not have to fiddle around with the camera on the back of the phone. I have not used this feature yet as I do not know anyone else with a 3G phone so I cannot really comment on the quality of the calls.

MEMORY
~~~~~~~~
The phone comes with 64mb of internal memory and this can be expanded further by adding a memory stick. You cannot just add any memory stick, it has to be the Sony Memory Stick Micro M2. I am yet to purchase one but have had a look at prices and they vary greatly so I would advise you to shop around.
SOUND / VOLUME / RINGTONES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This phone is the loudest I have ever had which is good as I have often , in the past, not been able to hear my previous phones ringing. Obviously, as with all phones, you can alter the volume to suit you. The sound of the ringtone, text message tone and alarm can all be personalised.

  Sony Ericsson K800i Cyber Shot
Review created: 11/04/08
by:

As a standard tri-band GSM phone, it has an excellent camera.

Besides it being a standard Sony Ericsson phone it has a beautiful 240x320 resolution screen.

For this phone being K series, the K has an emphasis on Camera. The phone has a pretty decent 3.2 Megapixel camera which takes better pictures than most camera phones. It's not better than other phones using CCD cameras (primarily Japanese Mobiles). It still sports the same Sony Walkman features along with the Radio features. The only thing that makes this camera phone special is the Xenon flash. It goes off when you take a picture while in a room that's poorly lit situations; just like a regular digital camera. So for a phone for going out with your friends you can capture moments that you don't want to forget with this phone.

  EXCELLENT EBAY SELLER!!!

WHAT I LIKE

I really like the easy pleasant and no stress transaction from the seller. Very detailed auction page, and the seller promises to ship within a reasonable time frame. I feel very confident that I will receive the item I paid for with paypal and will hopefully gain trust with the seller to purchase more items from this seller in the future.

WHAT I DISLIKE

What I dislike about this item is fortuntally, nothing. So far so good.

WHY I DECIDE TO BUY IT

I decided to buy this item because, I researched from other ebay sellers, and stores, and this seller, attracted me to their store.

WHAT I LOVE

What I love is in general, the many secured options I can pay through paypal, the competitive prices on ebay, and the excellent customer service quick responses from the sellers at various times.

Thank you.

Michael.
