Like many of you, I have been collecting movies for years. For me, it began with VHS tape (back in 1989) Now with Laser Disc, you can have a video library that takes up half your living room or den. The SONY DVP-CX995V is a fix for that storage and organizational problem. You can watch endless movies without getting out of your chair (literally) With Disc Explorer, you can browse through 400 titles of music or video with ease. Playback quality of course is dependant upon your setup. (ie; TV resolution etc)
The SONY DVP-CX995V plays all modern formats including your own burnt titles. I found only one disappointment with this unit. It does not recognize the title (or name) on every disc to be automatically entered into the explorer. This is remedied by the ability to connect a standard ps2 style keyboard directly into the front of the unit. Enabling the user to enter the video names into the explorer manually. Explorer also enables you to "capture" a screen shot of whichever movie your watching and saves it to explorer along side the movie title.
I have owned my SONY DVP-CX995V for a couple years now, and like all Sony equipment I have had very little if any issues with the unit.
I would give the SONY DVP-CX995V 5 stars for reliability, ease of use, modern functionality, cosmetic appeal and of course, it's storage ability!!
The Sony multi disc DVD player is a great way to store and play all of your DVD's in one place. I have three (3) of these units with over 700 DVD's. Easy to pick and choose a movie, easy to play, easy to program. Every movie at your fingertips with an easy to program and read movielist. Price is right and quality is outstanding. Love my Sony DVD players. You will too.
Product delivered in timely manner and unit was as marketed**********************************************************************************************
I have had this DVD Player for well over 18 months now with NO regrets. It might be a little slow but it is very, very reliable. I never once had a disc jam inside and I use it about 10 to 15 times a month. I have over 300 movies in mine and I really love the organization. I don't know how I got along without it. I have it hooked up to my Sony KDS-60A3000 rear projection TV through the HDMI cable and the up-conversion is almost as good as my Blu-Ray player. I am going to get a second one for my daughters room to keep movies organized.
Its a very capable disk jukebox with HDMI. It is slow and doesn't have a great interface but it works none the less. Combine it with logitech programmable remotes for the ultimate affect.
I bought the Sony DVP-CX995V multi-disc DVD player about a month ago. I wanted a DVD player that was SACD compatible. And this thing holds 400 Disc. So far it has played every type of Disc I have tried tp play. The picture and sound are great. The complaints I have are. It does not play DVD Audio disc. It takes alot of time to load Disc and enter information. It has a keyboard port to help enter the info but still takes a while. It is worth the money if you have a large collection.
Bought this item to consolidate hundreds of DVDs KARAOKE and eliminate problems with dirty fingers handling them and who don't put away the dvds they used. The door used to add disks also can be locked to prevent them from opening the case. The set up was time-consuming but easy. After the player loaded every disk I put in and classified it as movie, music or other; I was able to attach a pc keyboard and identify each by name. If you are adding a lot of disks at one time it is vital to write the names down in the order you put them in. It was also handy for me to create a written list of the disks to allow direct selection of a disk without having to scroll through the on-screen list the player shows. Plenty of options are available to attach the player to monitors and stereo equipment, including component and HDMI. I listen mostly to easy listening music (instrumental) and older music. for KARAOKE the sound quality is very important to me.The unit is also pretty quiet when the carousel is turning.
This unit is replacing another 400 CD Sony player. I bought this unit primarily because the audio spec's. are very high. Thus, the sound this unit produces is very pleasing.
I listen mostly to easy listening music (instrumental) and older music. I have a "critical ear" and the sound quality is very important to me.
The unit is also pretty quiet when the carousel is turning.
When set to shuffle all discs, there is a fairly long time span (perhaps ten seconds or more) waiting for the unit to read then play the next disc. That doesn't bother me, but, I think some people could get a little frustrated waiting for the next song to play.

This is a great player for the price! I have 350 DVD's in my collection and they were just getting too much to store in the house. Now I can put all of them in this player and store their cases in the garage out of site. The player works flawlessly and was easy to setup. However, there are two things I dislike about it. One, it automatically starts playing from the last point you left off. Now on one hand I can see how this would be great if you only can watch part of a movie, but I rarely if ever only watch part of a movie so it's a bit of a pain to wait for it to get to a point so you can stop it and go to the movie you want to watch. Two, it's a LOT of work to set it up with the titles and genre. I can see why they put a keyboard attachment in the machine. So far I've put in around 120 DVD's and it's taken me probably the better part of 2 or 3 hours (of course spread out over a couple of days). Some of the movies I have it did recognize and filled in the info but the majority it did not. It IS time consuming to put all that info into the machine but I think it will be worth it in the end. The best way to do this is to write down the titles of the movies and the slot you put it in as you load the player, then you can refer to the list while inputting the titles and it goes much faster.
Third, it is a little slow accessing the DVD's but that doesn't really bother me too much, just gives me time to settle in with my popcorn and diet coke! ;-) Oh yeah and also make sure you watch the measurements. It is a large machine and I am sure it won't fit in many of the TV stands out there.
Overall I really like the quality of the picture and the performance of this machine. You can sort by title (yea!) and genre to make it easy to find certain movies! You can also create folders so you can split up your movies and CD's. I was impressed with the abilities this machine has to offer as far as organizing the titles.
If you have a large DVD collection OR large CD collection I would highly recommend this player for the price. I think I paid around $250 for this on ebay. Great buy considering I paid close to that for the DVD storage shelving units I had been using to store my collection! It's also nice not to have to pick a movie and load the player, watch the move then put the movie away on the shelf. heh.. it's also harder for your friends to come over and say "Oh I love this movie, Can I borrow it??" Sorry..blockbuster is down the street!! lol
Pros - All my discs in one machine. On-screen menu helps locate discs.
Cons - Player does not keep memory of what is in machine; remove a disc, loose the info. Most DVD/CDs do not have info about the disc burned into them, had to hand type details of 387 discs, extremely time consuming.
I love the convienence of having 400 movies loaded that i can browse through using the sorting menu and remote. It is quick and convienent. The only bad thing is the re-loading time and the size of the item. The re-loading time is sometimes extensive since the player does not atuomatically recognize new disc and load there info. You have to manually load all the disc and the size makes it a bit cumbersome for smaller entertainment areas. Neither of these cons outwiegh the ease of use and convienece of the player itself though.
I purchased this unit for a friend as I already had teh Sony 300 CD unit. I must say, I love music and it is so nice to just hit the random button and let this baby do its job. In fact you could probably go random and never do another thing over a year or two period and never hear the same song. Sony is king in my opinion and with this new unit, you can even play DVD's and attached to your TV you are good to become America's largest couch potato! You cannot go wrong with this unit, it has my recommendation.
