WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! MY FIRST SONY!

I am taking a vacation to New York City in a few weeks and I wanted a really good digital camera for the trip. I own a 5mp Kodak easyshare dx4530 with 3x optical zoom, and just love it to death! I was looking for a nice camera which had better zoom. I was seriously considering another Kodak easyshare, because of the VERY BEST picture quality. I went to the local store to purchase a new camera and while testing out the cameras heres what I found. I first tried the kodak DX 7590 and was not pleased with the results. I zoomed across the store on a sign mounted on the wall and snapped the picture. I looked at the photo on the viewfinder and BLURRY! I gave this Kodak the bennifit of the doubt and did the same thing, 3 more times... Blurry, blurry, blurry. Being a Kodak fan, I felt I needed to force myself to like this camera; I could NOT... Then, I picked up this SONY camera, zoomed on the same sign on the other side of the room..... Clear as a whistle...... All three times!!!! I was sold on this sony!!!
This camera had better optical zoom then the DX 7590, by kodak and a much more stable picture... This sony also focuses and zooms faster then the kodak...... Read reviews about the kodak 4mp and above cameras, you will see that they take along time to focus!!!! You need to buy this camera!!! I am so sorry kodak, but sony has outdone you....... Enough with my stories, here is my pro's and cons:

Pro: Highest ZOOM!
Pro: Image stabilization!!!!
Pro:fastest zoom and auto focus
pro: HUUUUGGGEEEE VERY HIGH QUALITY LCD screen!!

I just love this camera.... There is one thing I don't like about this camera, that is it uses memory stick pro media.... I have SD cards for my old Kodak easyshare.. Now I have to go out and buy a new media card.... But folks, this is well worth it...... I love this camera!!!! Besides, this camera IS cheaper then any kodak!!! I bought mine at WALMART for $399; yes, it is cheaper on ebay, but not much! Well worth the money!!!!
If you are thinking of spending 3 or 4 hunderd on a camera, make sure you buy one with an Image stabilization feature..... BUY THIS CAMERA!~!!!!!

One of the best digital cameras for well under $500
Review created: 10/02/05(updated 06/04/08)

Pros:
The Sony DSC-H1 has many features and settings to adjust to any situation. I have owned a sony dsc-f707 and currently own a sony dsc-f828 and found that the sony dsc-h1 can take just as good of a crisp picture as my $1,000 sony dsc-f828 and the same for the dsc-f707. You get a 12x optical zoom, mpeg movie mode with audio, 7 scene selection modes, 2.5" lcd and much more for easily under $500 (can be found on ebay brand new for around $400 as of 10/02/2005). Sony always makes their cameras user friendly and easy to learn the settings.

Cons:
It's not the most compact digital camera but with a 12x optical zoom lens and a good sized flash you sort of have to sacrifice. Even though it's easy to use I wouldn't recommend this camera for a beginner because of all the features and settings. It takes time and practice to learn which scene selection + settings are best for certain lighting situations but once you get it down you will be impressed with the pictures taken. If purchased brand new or with all the original cd's then you will get a tutorial cd that will show you which scene selections are best for certain situations.

Overall:
For a digital camera under $500 with its wide range of features, settings and scene selections, in my opinion not many digital cameras in its class compete with the Sony DSC-H1. It's a great camera at a great price!

  I love my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H1 5.1 Megapixel

This is my second Cyber-Shot from Sony. The first one lasted 5 long years through worldly travels, and several bumps and bruises. It even helped me win a couple photography awards. After it's 9th life being spent, I bought another! I absolutely adore my new Cyber-Shot DSC-H1. The quality of the photo, whether it be print or digital, is extremely clear. Great for taking detailed still images of ebay items for auction or quick moving action pictures. You have the ability to adjust settings manually or switch to automatic for the more novice user. Very comfortable to grip. Convenient ports for photo download. Lastly but a very important feature...the rechargeable "Stamina" Cyber-shot batteries are unbelievably long lasting! Still smiling and shooting in Richmond, VA.

Great Camera - Would Recommend (user friendly)
Review created: 03/31/06
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

Pros:
great quality photos (both during the day and night), strong 12x optical zoom, easy to use (user friendly), super steadyshot feature which allows long distance pictures to be more clear, can easily add optional wide-angle and telephoto lenses to increase optical range, nice solid SRL body design, large 2.5" LCD screen

Cons:
the size is a little big, but average for most SLR body designs (it has an excellent flash though), battery life is a little weak

Overall:
Great camera for those who want more options than a regular point and shoot camera and can't afford a real SLR. I would recommend this camera if you can find one on sale for around $300 or less. It comes with a tutorial CD where you can learn about all the neat features and options.

Very good camera if you need to zoom in

Very stable pictures at max zoom. Great for low light shots. Easy to learn and use. I use 5meg memory and never had a space problem. I take over 100 pictures each time I get the camera out. Make sure you get extra batteries. Mine lasts about 60 minutes on continuous use before they need changing out.
It is big because of the zoom lens but fits your hand very nicely. Is much like a normal 35mm film camera in size and feel.
I think it was well worth the money.

Before I purchased this camera I did alot of research on dital camera and decided this was the best camera out there for the price. It take great action shots. Pictures you want to zoom in on you could not ask a camera to do any better. It is lightweight easy to carry take it with you every were you go. We went to Niagra Falls this year and I could take pictures from the hotel room and they looked like we were right on top of the falls. It was great. It is just good all around camera. The only flaw I find with this camer is it has so many gadgets on it I cannot figure them all out, Maybe if I read the instruction guide it would help me more I just like to point and shoot.

I've had this camera for several months now. It takes great quality pictures, it's fast, the zoom w/ image stabilzer works great, it feels good to hold and it has a nice set of features. My only problem has been that the flash can be overpowering in some situations.

  Great (muy buena)
Review created: 08/24/06

Short and simple:
- Excellent Zoom with image stabilization.
- Good Battery life (2 AA).
- Big LCD for instant gratification.
- Excellent picture capturing (superior to other brands more expensive cameras with higher megapixels).
- Great manual with many photography tips for beginners.
Cons:
- Big. You can't put it in your pocket therefore you can't have it with you for that casual picture at the bar (for that I have a Casio Exilim).

To conclude, this camera will impress you and everyone around you. This camera has been in the market long enough to have nice price drops.

Corto y sencillo:
-Excelente zoom con estabilización de imágenes.
-Usa 2 pilas AA y generalmente duran bastante.

I love this camera! I can do no wrong when it comes to taking pictues, they always turn out good. My last camera was a Fuji 3800 which is a good camera but can't compare with the Cyber-shot. I get a lot of complements on my pictures. The features I like best are the zoom, wide f-stop range, wide ISO range and the image stabilizer. I've had this camera 3 months now and the only problem I've had with it is the batteries have fallen out twice because I accidently hit the button that triggers the door release. I do take a lot more pictures than most people though. I've taken 1067 pictures since I received the camera and nearly every one has been perfect.

I decided to buy it, because on several tests and reviews this camera got an 9.1 from people who allready bought this one. What I like abt this camera is the display which is very large and clear compared to others. What I also like is the possibility of several automatic programms. What I dislike is when transferring the pictures to my pc and watching them on a 17" monitor, they are all, without any exception vague and not sharp anymore. Also when copying them on a dvd they are not sharp anymore. They only remain sharp when you watch them on a normal photo size. What I also have problems with, is shooting pictures when the object is moving. I can't get them sharp. On the other hand, making macro pictures is very easy and really are beautifull. The menu on the camera is very easy to handle. And also the software that comes with it, is a nice programm. The steadyshot seams not to work everytime, although I really pay attention that it is switched on. I think the price of this camera is really worth it. Overall it is a very fine camera and maybe the other negative points I mentionned will be solved when I have spend more time with it

  Sony Cber-shot DSC-H1 5.1 Megapixel camera
Review created: 06/10/06

6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I bought one Sony DSC-H1 camera about two months ago after doing alot of research. The combination of the 5.1 megapixel and 12X zoom currently can't be matched in any camera for its features and price, approximately $350. The pictures are usually crisp and clear; the exeptions being poor lighting conditions and being in a hurry to compose a shot. I think if one took enough pictures in different conditions he would learn which settings work the best for that particular camera. I am still in this learning curve.
My only complaint is when the camera automatically pops up the flash. It may be needed and generally takes better pictures then, but I don't like it when you know you are going to either get a flash reflection in the picture, or scare wildlife away. I'm sure there are ways to cancel this, though it would need to be done each time the camera is turned on.

The camera takes about 9 pictures with its built in memory, so I would recommend getting a large memory stick card, and I easily found a 2GB Sony Pro memory stick card here on E-Bay at a price hard to find in a retail store.

Regardless of its flaws,I loved the camera so much I bought another for another family member, and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Excellent camera for close ups and fine detail.

The optical zoom feature is excellent for the close-ups I wanted to take while on my vacation. I was able to zoom into an iron gate at Buckingham Palace to capture a photo of the intricate crest from quite far away. I found the directions for use easy to understand and the camera very easy to use.The quality of the photos is the best I have ever experienced. If I was uncertain whether to use the automatic setting or one of the featured choices on the dial, I tried both with the same shot and chose the best one. I like that it uses AA batteries. I bought extra re-chargeable batteries for my vacation and I can also use regular AA batteries available anywhere in the world if I am in a pinch. The only drawback on this camera is it's size. It is larger than my former camera and I hesitated using it in a downpour because I couldn't shield it enough from the rain. I am thrilled with this camera. For the price it is a great bargain.

  Excellent Camera for Any User
Review created: 06/05/06

This camera is an excellent buy. The best zoom! In comparison to cameras in this price range, you are getting the best bang for your buck here. Many controls make this a great camera for the expert, who will know what to do with them. For the beginning buyer of a digital camera, you can't got wrong either. There are controls on this camera that are very self-explanatory. You don't need to read over the manual 9000 times to figure it out. You hit the menu and do what you need to do. I owned one before and lost it during a fishing trip, and bought one to replace it the same day! I found myself lost without it, and no other digital could compare to the quality of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H1 5.1 in my eyes. The only thing I don't like is pause before the shot. There is quick 1-2 second pause when taking a picture, so you may find yourself looking at pictures you may not have neccessarily wanted. However, I use this camera for Ebay, sporting events, my children's photos, work photos, etc. There is nothing I cannot do with the camera. The video/audio capabilites are fantastic too, and very easy to use. The LCD screen is huge, and your pictures are crystal clear! I don't think I couldn't bought a better camera for this price, and if you are looking for cheaper cameras, I would suggest paying a little extra for this one, you won't be sorry you did.

We were looking at pocket watches. one for sale was photographed so clearly and closely, every detail showing perfectly. I "asked the seller a question" and asked him the type of camera he used. My quest began for the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H1. I bid on several not winning till this one. It's the BEST. It will help us sell our eBay things with wonderfully detailed photos. All the better for all.

  Sony's DSC-H1

On-line is the only place to purchase this item as Sony has discontinued this model. This is a solid camera that takes high, quality photos. Though I am far from a pros pro, I'm more adept than grandma fumbling around with her point-and-shoot. The DSC-H1 feels good in my hands, and it is far from being bulky and clunky. Sony has upgraded this line, however, more than a few retail reps who I talked to prior to purchasing this camera said they were more impressed with the DSC-H1 than some of Sony's most recent models.

  One of Sony's GOOD Products
Review created: 11/03/06
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I was a little skeptical at first to get another expensive sony product, but The H1 is a high quality camera. I've had mixed results with Sony electronics over the last 10 yrs. Alot of the time it seems the craftmanship was more for production and profit than actual quality, but still carried a hefty price tag. The Sony DSC-H1 does not fall into that catergory.

A very good "super zoom" camera. High quality pics with plenty of manual options. Overall I'd say the Canon S2 IS is the top camera for that year/catergory but the H1 is a close second IMO.

At 5 mega pixels this camera has more than adequate digital quality. The 12x Carl Zeis lens is top quality and works great. Optical zoom is so much more important than digital zoom, 12x is on the high end right now for this price range. The camera has a ton of features that allow you to experiment with photography if you chose (manual mode settings). Otherwise you can simply select preset image types and the camera takes phenomenal pictures with one press of the button. The camera come with rechargeable batteries and a charger. The only drawback is the size. if you want something small to slip in your pocket, this camera won't work, but if you are used to an SLR sized camera, and want decent optical zoom and megapixel size,, this one is for you.
