707 reasons to buy this camera..... 30 of 36 people found this review helpful.
Alright, you got me, I really can't come up with 707 reasons. I can however try to describe why I purchased this camera over the competition. When I purchased this camera I had alot to choose from. Not only were there comparable digital camera's to choose from, but there were some good SLR's to choose from too. When I was standing in our hometown Best Buy staring at the choices, I have to say I was already bias. I have made it a habit to purchase on name brand alone, and Sony had been the most reliable. With that being said, I was open to other options. There were four things that I was looking for. 1) Megapixels I had a cell phone camera that took photo's at 1.0 megapixels and they were terrible. The picture was grainy and unclear. With the 5.0 megapixels, the difference was crystal clear. The pictures are sharp, and colorful with an almost life-like view of your shot on the LCD screen. 2) Optical Zoom Alot of camera's promote digital zoom as an important quality in a camera when infact, the higher the optical zoom, the clearer the picture will be when you zoom in on your target. 3) Memory Stick capability Quite simply the better alternative to Cd's, tapes, or film. The advancement in printer capabilities and now the option to put it directly into your TV was exciting for me. 4) Large LCD Screen This camera has a large, easy to see screen at any angle that you take your photo. With the ability to swivel the lens up and down to adjust to any shot while still viewing the screen is a luxury in digital camera's. It has the viewfinder to look through but I never use it. Those are the important things that I needed in a camera. I did not care about the size, weight, or shape. The camera is a little heavy, and bulky would probably be a good descriptive word for it, but the pro's far outway the con's. Another great feature is the ability to screw on filters for any shot. I am glad that I chose this camera and would recommend this camera to anyone from the serious photographer to the novice who expects perfection.

I can’t emphasize enough, the benefits you will achieve using this camera. The bold design gives you a genuine feeling of being a step above the other guy, and the performance etches it in stone. Side by side comparison with Canon and Nikon will prove that Sony’s precision electronic capabilities combined with Carl Ziess optics put this 5.1 mp in a class of its own. I carry this camera daily, and it takes its fair share of bumps and abuses and I’ve never had a single failure. The only drawback however is the lack of a live hot shoe. There is a standard slide mount that resembles the hot shoe, but it only accommodates a few Sony branded add-ons that are reliant upon the ACC port.(why even bother?). The f717 and f727 do have functional hot shoe however. A twistable body allows for overhead, over the crowd shots or super low ground shooting. And a cupped TTL LCD make daylight and private focus just a thumb switch away. The lens will accommodate any 58mm filter or conversion lens, and the AE laser spotting insures focal point accuracy in any light conditions. Auto bracketing, burst of 3 and 3 pre-set scene settings make for quick decision confidence. This camera will definitely put you a couple notches higher on a pro scale. Highly recommend! Amateurs will get professional results, professionals will get remarkable results.
