Sony Blu-ray Disc™ BDP-S1 Blu-Ray Player

I bought 3 different Blu Ray machines the Samsung BD-P1000, the LG BH100 and the Sony BDP-S1 to test them on a CRT Projector combined with a JBL Synthesis One Sound System in a dedicated THX room. The LG has the advantage to read both Blu Ray and HDDVD standards, but I found the image is little bit pale. The Samsung is OK. But for me the Sony is the best Blu Ray machine with a stronger ouput signal, a more precise image, a sharper sound ... and a great look.

HI HERE WE ARE AGAIN HD WARS.THE BLU-RAY DISC IS INCREDIBLE.THE PICTURE CLARITY,COLOR AND SOUND ARE MUCH BETTER THEN STANDARD DVDS.UPGRADING FROM 480P TO 1080I AND HIGH AS 1080P WITH NEW HD TVS.THE SONY BDP-S1 IS A GREAT PLAYER.IT IS SONY'S SECOND BLU-RAY PLAYER THE PS3 IS ALSO A BLU-RAY PLAYER.BLU-RAY DISC IS 25GB PER SINGLE LAYER DISC.FOR MOVIES THIS IS GOOD SO THERE IS LESS COMPRESSION GIVING YOU SUPERIOR PICTURE AND SOUND.BUT CAN SONY WIN THE HD WAR.{BETA-VHS}.HD DISC IS ALSO VERY GOOD THE TWO ARE MUCH THE SAME EXCEPT HD-DVD IS ONLY 15GB PER SINGLE LAYER DISC BUT HD DVD IS REGION FREE AND BLU-RAY IS 3 REGION SO THERE ARE UP'S AND DOWN'S ON BOTH SIDES.WITH SO MANY DIFFERENT BRANDS OUT THERE I WOULD WAIT AND LET BOTH BLU-RAY AND HD-DVD BATTLE IT OUT.I WOULD BET THAT SONY WIN BE THE WINNER OVER THE HD WARS IF I WHERE TO BUY ONE IT WOULD BE BLU-RAY.I KNOW THAT SONY ARE COUNTING ON THE PS3 TO BACK THEM UP THEY HAVE A LOT OF MONEY AND YEARS OF PRODUCTION RIDDING ON THIS.

I was hesistant to purchase one of these players at first due to the cost, but have been incredibly impressed with the player and its functionality. Although this is a first version release it is worth keeping your eyes on as the price comes further down as the technology gets further advanced.

I am very pleased with my purchace. The item arrived in record time. The company provied extended service through square deal trade. I would buy from them again in the future. The machine performs superbly.There is slight delay from the time you power it up and getting the tray to open. After that its smooth sailing. The remote is a bit confusing at first untill you figure all that it can do. Im still reading up on that.The Blu ray picture is truely remarkable.The sound will amaze you.

This blu-ray player is excellent. It does a great job in playing the discs and has great sound. The only drawback is the length of time it takes to start up. I can live with that though.

I LOVE THIS BLU-RAY PLAYER... ITS UPGRADEABLE SO U ARE ALWAYS UP TO DATE WITH THE LATEST SOFTWARE.. THE IMAGES AND SOUND ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD...I HAVE THIS PLAYER IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN ONKYO 7.1 RECIEVER WITH ALL BOSE SPEAKERS AND THE MITSU 73" DLP. AND IM TELLING U, THIS IS THE PERFECT BEST PIECE TO MY HOME THEATER SYSTEM. IT MAKES BOTH THE PICTURE LOOK INSANE AND TRIGER EVERY SPEAKER WITH AWSOME REAL LIFE CRISP AFFECTS... GET IT, U WONT REGREDIT IT.

Bought a used BD-S1 from ebay for about $300 in an attempt to save money over a new third-generation BDP-S500. The S1 is beautiful looking, solid and heavy. There is a cooling fan, but it is relatively quiet. The unit would not work for my application (playing my own BD-video rendered from Sony Vegas) as received, but a firmware update to version 3.1 solved the problem (and many others). Thanks Sony for making a second generation product upgradeable to near third-generation performace!

The ability to color balance the HDMI output video is a plus. As with the 500 there is no internet connection and no interactive features. The unit lacks support for AVCHD discs encoded with x.v.Color (xvYCC) technology - but this feature is not important to me at this time. Up conversion of standard DVD to 720p is good, but I see little difference between the S1 and my inexpensive LG player with HDMI out. Overall I am quite happy with the S1.

I was so impressed by the Sony Blueray I have been rediscovering my love for movies. I bought it becasue I love special effects and i wanted to take full advantage of my HD TV. Was a awesome investment in my entertainment future.

I'm really happy about this, excellent condition,and play movie very well,sometime have a little slow when loading.but it not make me problem.

I purchased a Sony Blu-Ray player on Ebay and it didn't work when I received it. I returned it to the seller and he claimed that it was damaged in shipping and has refused to return my purchase price not to mention the shipping charge to me and return to him. It is fortunate that the Ebay world is not populated by people like this that you can not trust and that misrepresent what they are selling and only seek a way to take advantage of trusting members. Beware of member maxxwelle.

Great Blu-ray player. I own many Sony electronic products and have never been disappointed. Easy to connect to HDTV and home audio system. Video is incredible and regular DVD's can be seen in near HD quality. All in all, one great player. A must have for any audiophile.

I like my bdp-s1 very much ,Sony invented bluray technology so the quality was to be expected, it plays my dvd's with much better quality then my older DVD player and the sound quality , through my harman Kardon 7.1 receiver and infinity speakers is pure perfection and picture on my Sony HDTV is unsurpassed, I recommend this unit to anyone looking for an awesome home theater experience!!!

Bulid quality is excellent.Reminds me of the McIntosh equipment.Only gripe its slow but great picture quality and sound.The newer models does not compare in build quality but always the first players are over done.Tray is plastic instead of metal with this bulid quality figured the loading tray would be metal or a thicker plastic.Picture quality is superb even with regular DVds.Needs to be upgraded on a regular basis as this is 1st generation.This is SONY ES bulid quality except for the tray.Good deal and can be found fairly inexpensive.Estechics are very nice with the brushed steel or aluminum top and glass front.One thats a keeper.

The seller had described the item perfectly, it was delivered when prommised, and great communication. This was definately one of my personal favorate ebay purchases.

the item was in good condition, but it is broken , it don't work, the seller said that it my need an up-grade. i up-graded it and it still dose not work, i beleive he could have known and sold it as a mybe to get more for a broken item.

IF YOU NEED A GOOD BLUE-RAY PLAYER TO WATCH YOR MOVIES THIS IS THE ONE TO GO , THE ONLY SHORT COMING IS THAT IT DOES NOT PLAY AUDIO CD WICH I DO NOT CARE , OTHER THAN THAT IS AN EXCELENT PLAYER ALL AROUND.

The seller promptly responded to my email. He was professional and courteous helping me and made the unit started working as described in his ad. He walked me through all the process. He even came by and helped me made the player work satisfactorily.

He has an excellent customer service that earned him my respect. I met an honest and straight individual and made a friend at the same time.

This BDP-S1 player is a good buy and got my money's worth. I will recommend it to my friends and to anyone.

Excellent machine, very well kept. Very few scratches. Works fine, only thing is that it didn't have the updated firmware which was supplied by the manufacturer.

Bulky and slow but it delivers a great picture, unfortunately Blu Ray's do not allow for a universal remote.

I love this unit. The setup using the supplied HDMI cable was effortless. The remote is very user friendly and very intuitive. To say the picture is great is an understatement. I first watched a blueray disc of the 5th Element and was totally blown away by what I saw. The picture on my Sony KDL-52XBR3 was astonishing. After being totally impressed I watched a standard DVD of American Gangstar and was pleased by the upconverted picture. At the price I paid ($300.00) this unit was worth every dollar. My only gripe is with the cheap plastic loading tray. Having bought Sony ES level DVD players in the past I had become accustomed to a certain build quality, I don't see that here but by waiting as long as I did to get this unit I paid much less than the original asking price ($1000). I think I got my money's worth

I am very impressed with the number of features and quality of playback available on this unit. It's operation is easy and the playback of regular DVD's is extremely clear compared to several other units I have tried.

a very good blu-disc player ;very well built machine!! the only thing i don't like is the resume play, only works if you leave the player on.. as soon as you turn it off you loose it!!
