Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Game Gear, 1992)

This game came with the first sega game gear I bought when I was a kid. I have played all the Sonic games for the this console and I feel that it is the best out of the bunch. The graphics are sharp and Sonic seems to be more interactive with other objects on screen. He rides in a mine cart, flies in a Hang Glider and floats in a bubble. There are 7 main levels to this game and most levels are broken up into three sections. The rules are the same like all of the other Sonics, find the 6 Chaos Emerald. Beat Dr. Robotnik and you will rescue Tails. You play only has Sonic in this one. The music is good and I especially like Green Hill Zone and the Bosses music. You can find this game for a very reasonable price or purchases it in a lot of games at auction. This is one of my favorites for this Handheld console. If you are a Sonic fan, make sure you pick it up.

Sonic so far by far is one of the best loved series of games for gaming systems that the kids love. I recently purchased a few game gears for relatives who have problems because I liked the game gear after looking around on Ebay to read what people wrote about the system.
Sonic games are challenging but still rewarding game that is not slow paced. The difficulty builds at different levels. The colors are excellent for the games such that different characters and items show clearly on the screen.

After playing Sonic finally to make sure it worked when it was won recently at Ebay for the kids Sega Game Gears I finally understand why they enjoy this little hedgehog so much. This game was a little more interesting to me than the spin ball was which took off a bit slow but then began to build for interest but there are a few spin ball (where Sonic is the ball in a huge pin ball type matrix) places where Sonic gets hung up and just bounces around such that there is little action game play but definitely some visual entertainment.

This game has items to collect, opponents to knock out and other interesting items to gain points along with interest. As of yet I have to master jumping in the cart that runs down the tracks such that I am not usually left behind after touching it to motivate it to move.

There is not much reading from what I can tell but it has plenty of hand to eye fine motor skill action for children who are learning such skills.

The background music is not overpowering and is very nice.

Overall it is a very entertaining game that I am glad I do not survive long in (yet) such that I am not still sitting here playing it such that I understand how children will get so hooked on playing such an animated character.

This game and the system that it is played on were way ahead of their time. It was out during the day of the green and black screen that was the game boy ruled the world. BUT IT YOU'LL LOVE IT IF YOUR INTO OLD SCHOOL GAMING!

I will give credit to Sonic 2 for Game Gear because it isn't a clone of the Genesis version. The game is rather difficult at times(especially towards the end), but I managed to beat it(without the emeralds). My favorite levels are Aqua Zone, Gimmick Mountain, Green Hills, and Crystal Egg(need all the emeralds to play this level). I used the level select code to play Crystal Egg. The graphics aren't bad and the music is OK. You will be challenged to the max during the boss battles though. Sonic will have to put his skills to the test to make it through each challenge. The final battle with Robotnik isn't too bad once you learn his pattern. I got Sonic 2 free with some Game Gear games I bought, so that's not a bad deal. You will have no problem finding this on eBay. Check it out if you choose.
