Songbird by Eva Cassidy (CD, Mar-1998, Blix Street Records)

I purchased this CD after hearing it at a friend's home. I was extremely impressed by the ethereal quality of Eva's voice. Her wistfil interpretation of Over the Rainbow is by far the best I have ever heard. Upon research I was saddened to learn that she had passed away but I'm left with a sense of completion knowing that she has now arrived the other side of the rainbow. Fields of Gold and the Autumn Leaves are equally impressive as she literally floats over the notes like a warm breeze on a lazy sunlit afternoon. This album is one that no music library should be without.

I first heard this beautiful voice when she was brought to my attention on the American Idol message board and I just couldn't believe that I hadn't heard of her before or her music. I just love Eva's voice there is just no other like it. It was sad that she had to leave us so soon, but her beautiful sounds have been left for all of us to cherish and listen too. This CD is one of her best, but I do have my favorite song and its "Sondbird" when I hear it I feel like something has lifted me right out of this life. Eva rest in peace and your love for music will live on within all your fans that listen to it. God Bless and keep you.

I ran across this CD in my local library. Eva's voice is incredible. As others have remarked, the purity, clarity, and strength of her voice is astounding. You will love this CD!

Her voice is like.....butter. No one can hold a candle to her version of "Over The Rainbow".
Makes me cry. Sadly, she's no longer around for people to tell her how moving her music is to so many!

Eva had a voice that was like no other. She didn't just sing the songs, but lived them. Her renditions of classics are even better than most originals. She added elements to the songs that she sang, body and soul. She left this earth much too soon, but left us her music.

A friend of mine has this cd and I heard it and it was so BEAUTIFUL! She has an amazing voice and talent, so sad she died so young. I needed two cd's for a wedding and ordered this one and several others of hers...really did not care for the others and actually asked seller not to send me two of them...but I got all four. She sings Somewhere over the Rainbow and it is just Glorious! There is another song titled...Songbird...I could hear this everyday of my life. Wonderful music to listen to while traveling... This is a great cd for a gift, It is really worth the money!

A friend of mine recently pointed me in the direction of Eva Cassidy. I checked her music out on You Tube and found that I just loved her voice, and her passion while she sings. She is the kind of singer that you can hear a pin drop in the audience while you are constantly in awe of her melodic voice. Her style is a mixture of folk, blues, jazz all mixed into one. Awesome.

I became a fan of Eva Cassidy after hearing her rendition of "Over The Rainbow" during the opening credits of "Alpha Dog." I absolutely had to have her CD. She has a beautiful, bluesy voice, and she conveys passion in every song that she sings. It is a shame that she is no longer here to supply us with her beautiful lyrics and her powerful voice, but her Songbird cd will will live on as one of the best CDs of all time.

I am a big fan of Eva, and the world has lost a true talent. This cd is a blend of beautifully sung pieces...Eva puts her heart and soul into her singing, and you feel it. She has a beautiful voice that she permeates your soul...a pure, crystalline soprano. Miss her!!!

After hearing and enjoying a couple of Eva Cassidy's songs, I decided to give her Songbird CD a try. Am I ever glad I did! Her voice is soft and gentle one minute, then strong and powerful in all the right places. Her music is a mix of jazz, easy listening, pop, blues, folk and gospel. And her interpretations of some old favorites are nothing short of amazing. Her "Over the Rainbow" is soulful, her voice clear and pure. If for no other reason, buy the CD for this song ahd "Songbird." Now THIS is music -- perfect pitch and straight from the heart.

If you want to hear samples before you buy, go to Amazon and search her name. But trust me, if you buy any of her CD's, you will not be sorry.

Sadly, cancer (Melanoma) stole this amazing talent in 1996 when she was only 33 years old. All but one of her CD's were released posthumously. But we are blessed that there were recordings that could be put together on CD's for the world to hear.

This girl was amazing! Her interpretations are outstanding, Fields of Gold especially, is a revelation.

Best voice of the 90's and beyond. Fantastic renditions of every song. If you need a relaxing cd for a background dinner party music.

I heard this singer on Youtube and her voice just stopped me in my tracks. I couldn't get enough of her. When I learned that she had died over a decade ago, it just bummed me out. She has a new album coming out this month, though. Indicative of her greatness. Four five albums, all released posthumously. This is my current favorite. Her voice is incomparable!

The good rating I gave is because I personally have heard nobody make a song sound so special.
I bought this product for my wife, she loves the easy going melody Eva created
with copying famous songs.
Sad enough she died young, which makes her music even more interesting.
There is always a song you don't like as much as the other ones, but in general I think it is an good CD to listen to.
The negative thing about this as well as other CD's from singers that died is that
the prices go up instead of down.

I got this CD in a bunch of CDs I bought wholesale. Curiousity led me to give it a listen. What a great singer! Eva effortlessly switches from pop to folk to jazz, doing none of the genres a disservice. Autumn Leaves is a particular favorite as is Fields of Gold. Highly Recommended.

This CD has to be heard to be appreciated. The first song "Fields of Gold",
a remake by Sting, is so beautiful. Eva has the ability to connect with
every song on her album and make it hers. Every song on this album is a
treasure...I loved her music so much, I purchased "Imagine" also. You won't
be disappointed.

I like the CD. It sounds very good and glad I bought it. The packaging was acceptable and shipping was amazingly fast.

A few years ago I awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of Eva Cassidy singing 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' - and thought -- "that's the most beautiful voice". After listening to the rest of the song, the announcer mentioned her name and that Eva had died recently of cancer.

Of course over the next week I bought every Eva Cassidy CD available.

Last year my Mother in law came for a visit and I played her some of Songbird for her. Of course she fell in love with it as well. I promised to copy the song to a CD for her and of course, never did. Finally around the holidays I just decided to send her one through Ebay.

I have the purchasing habits of my grandparents. buy it in a store, dig through the house, find a box, pack the item, wrap it, take it to the PO and mail it. My Ebay shopping experience was fantastic! I like it so much I bought other stuff for family for Christmas -- what a sigh of relief! I loved having someone else do all the work for me.

Reasonably priced, original packaging.

I really comment on this cd . I bought it for a friend. I feel it was shipped to me in good condition and in a reasonable matter. I would continue to buy this way.

"Songbird" is a sampler of Eva's unique talent and virtuosity. All of her recorded songs are covers of other artist's versions and in nearly every case Eva does a better rendition. The range and control of her voice is unmatched. This is a Streisland who can do blues, jazz, skit-skat, folk, rock, and country. Even if you put aside the sad story of her much too early passing, this is an artist who has come along only a few times since the beginning of recorded music. Get her "Live at Blues Alley" CD to see just how great she was live. Unrivaled and unmatched in my book.

Eva Cassidy's voice is so clear,pure, and haunting at times. Her choice of songs was fantastic. I bought the CD because I heard the song Fields of Gold playing as background music and it stayed in my brain until I could find out who sang it. It is also sad to know that such great talent was cut short by her passing at a young age.

this album finally catches the essence of a great artist... pure sounds to bring tears to your eyes... I hope some other remixes will come of this.. I own all her CD's already but find the instrumentals in most of them overwhelming. This is a voice, sadly silenced so early.... buy this album, you won't regret it..
