Something the Lord Made (DVD, 2005)

This is a true about the Father of open heart surgery and an unsung hero (his assistent). I think that if others would view this movie they would come to the same conculision as I have. If it was not for the hard work of our African American brothers and sisters, we would still be in the dark ages of medicne. It is about time this man was given the credit for his life and work. I the future I hope that we will not judge the value of a man by his color, but by his work and life. This movie is a must for any persons libary.

Excellent movie. The dual-theme of medicine and the social/racial aspect made it especially interesting.

I thought this was an excellent movie! It really showed the race secredation in the stated back in those days. Also, This being a true story made it more meaningful to me. I work in the medical field and this movie just excited the heck out of me! It showed how ideas get started, and just because you don't have a college education does not mean you are stupid. Alan Rickman played a fine doctor in that time period although his british accent did get in the way from time to time with him trying to talk like a southern gentleman. Mr. Def was just great also, proving with a quick mind (and hands) can get you places. In the end he does get the recogninition he deserved all along. Loved IT!!! A must see! :)

Very, very touching movie. Portrays harsh realities of the depression and racism while following the man who deliberately decided to serve mankind. The man responsible for the revolutionary operation that saved babies born with a once fatal heart condition received no credit, but he continued researching and training the world's first heart surgeons. His work was akin to "something the Lord made."

My wife and I really enjoyed this movie,We had seen it before and thought it was worth our dvd collection.So we decided to buy it.

What I like about it is that It has Alan Rickman in it. What I disliked about it was the movie overall was not that great. I bought it only because Alan Rickman was in it.

This is the first film that I had pictured Mos Def as a serious actor in a serious role. Bravo for everyone in this movie and had anything to do w/the production. I don't like the use of the "G.D." word in movies ( I tell people,"GOD doesn't need a damn..He walks on water")and it had a couple of other harsh words but great acting non-the less. I do not remember this being offered in theaters. I bought the movie because it is based on a true story and needs to be told.

This movie is a drama so don't expect to laugh much, it is a wonderful tribute to the men and woman who pioneered the field of heart surgery. It is certainly well written and acted by all.

Something the Lord Made is a touching film about racism in the medical world. Mos Def is the brilliant but underrated assistant to prestigous doctor Alan Rickman, together they develop amazing innovations in medicine.The story was interesting, but the fim is very long, and I found myself wondering if and when the many conflicts were ever going to be resolved.In addition, I was very suprized to find that Alan Rickman, for once, does NOT steal this show. Being a big fan of his work,it was a bit disappointed! Mos Def is the real star of this film, he truly shines as Vivian. I recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of historical dramas or Mos Def, but if you are looking for outrageous Rickman villiany get Robin Hood instead.

This movie was sensational because I knew nothing about the role that Mos Def played. Back in those days, this character couldn't have gotten the credit that we would in today's society. The one thing you can say about the famous doctor is that he had a lot of respect for all the ideas and procedures that he came up with.

This is a true story of Vivian Thomas - a black American of tremendous medical talents and aptitude who was forced to face tremendous challenges in his career from the 1920's to the 60's. He worked in the pioneering area of open heart surgery. This man's life is a model case for overcoming handicaps and suceeding to the point of deserved recognition. Highly recommended. Some racial content to demonstrate the times and some closeups of medical procedures. Highly recommended.

Great academic movie. Though not as inspirational as my personal favorite of Beautiful mind, nevertheless, the message of pursuing dreams regardless of color and race is still reverberant. I recommend to everyone!

Stellar performances by Rickman & Mos Def. Absorbing, uplifting story. The relationship between Dr. Blalock (Rickman) and Vivien Thomas (Def) is both troubling and fascinating. Mos Def 's performance steals the show. Vivien Thomas not only was an amazing talent, but also a remarkable humanitarian who overcame racism, arrogance, and professional jealousy. The movie portrays all of this superbly. Well worth watching several times.

Something the Lord Made is an amazing movie that warms the hearts of many. It is a classic story that will empower people to make the right decision even if it isn't the "norm." The story behind the move makes one feel anything is possible with a little trust in the unknown. It was extremely enlightening and a wonderful movie! I decided to buy it because I had seen it previously and loved it. I'm proud to finally have it in my movie collection.

I orginally rented the movie from the public library in haste and after watching the movie I was so moved. I had tears in my eyes, it was such a heart felt story. It was based on a true story and I related to it because alot of times I am looked over in spite of my accomplishments whether big or small, but this story can reach out to people on so many different levels. It reached out to my wife in a way where she had years of experience without the education but can do the job as good as and even better than those with the education. I recommend this movie to all ages because it can reach a vast majority of individauls.

I ordered the DVD "Something the Lord Made" on May 23. I did not receive the order until June 10 or so. When I opened the package, I had received the wrong DVD. They sent me the DVD "Under Siege", which I did not order or want. I called and explained that they had sent the wrong DVD. They told me that they would send the right DVD with an envelope to send back the wrong DVD, which I agreed to. About a week later, I still had not heard from them and tried to contact them by phone and e-mail. The phone message states that someone will call you within 24 hours. I never received a phone call back. I finally got through to them on June 19 and they said that they still had not received the DVD from the "warehouse" and that if I still wanted the DVD they would get it for me. I agreed. I called again on June 30 and left a message and still have not heard back from them. I e-mailed them yesterday and still have not heard from them. I now just want my money back. I am very frustrated.

This movie is a must see. It is based on a true story. It is a good family movie without violence or crude language.
