Recording information: Record Room, Montreal, Canada.
In a sense, Kid Koala's second LP is more of a middle-ground between Mike Patton's history of avant-weirdness and the minimalist organic beat-making of Rahzel than a purist's hip-hop collection. The Canadian-bred DJ's eclectic cross-section of samples incorporates obscurities like saloon piano and old radio-show audio, and spins them into surrealism with deconstructive scratches and sporadically fired-off beats. At its most musical moments, like "Annie's Parlour," Koala transforms himself into an ambient landscaper. But at its heart, DJs is free jazz for the jaded 21st century head-nodder.

Editorial Reviews
3 stars out of 5 - ...Kid Koala is the kind of creative braniac you'd like at your party....There are some beautiful moments...
Q (11/01/2003)

...Constructs goofy sonic collages that won't get any parties started but will amaze you with their stunning is-it-live-or-is-it-turntable tricks....the perfect record for ADD-addled beat geeks. - Rating: B+
Entertainment Weekly (10/10/2003)

...'Basin Street Blues,' a zonked-out arrangement of the old jazz standard, is a turntablist milestone... - Grade: A
Spin (01/01/2004)

3 stars out of 5 - ...He can kick out the grooves when he wants to, but he's more like a whimsical version of DJ Shadow, playing with oddball sounds like a kid in a sandbox full of toys....impressive soundscapes that will also make you crack a smile.
Rolling Stone (11/13/2003)
