Thomas Dolby was a British synth-pop hero of the 1980s, bringing classy craftsmanship, musical sophistication, and yes, even a touch of funk to the proceedings. Although he stopped making new music in the mid-'90s, THE SOLE INHABITANT finds the tech-pop auteur alive and well in the 21st century, performing a passel of his classics. Working in a one-man-band scenario made possible by his technological mastery, he turns out almost shockingly full-sounding versions of such gems as the groove-monster "Hyperactive," the wistful "Europa and the Pirate Twins," and of course, his signature smash, "She Blinded Me With Science."
