Soap - The Complete First Season (DVD, 2003, 3-Disc Set)

I remember this sitcom when it first came out in the late 1970's and helped introduce us all to the ocmic abilities of Robert Guillome, Richard Mulligan, and Billy Crystal.

If you think Carlos Mencia is politically incorrect... you ain't seen nothing till you've watched a few episodes of soap. This show pokes fun at EVERYBODY and much like All in the Family and Good Times helped us all address the pending issues of the day (which we still don't seem to have worked through) with a grain of salt.

"SOAP" is the ultimate comic onslaught.

I was so happy when I found the Soap series on dvd. What a funny show. Lots of laughs.The show isn't a G rated show, so if that is what you want then don't watch it. But if you have an open mind and want to laugh, then yes, watch it.

no commercials, clear and best instructions. great resolution and the service was excellent. I highly recommended doing business with this company.

I have always enjoyed this show. All the actors were perfect with the parts they played. The stand outs are Robert Guillaume, the late Richard Mulligan, Katherine Helmond & Bob!!

Very disappointing is the DVD package. No extras at all. Would have like to have had the surviving cast interviews. I would have liked to have heard & seen such a thing.

And, the package itself, hard to open up.

I remember the series from when it was on in the 1970's. I never missed a week and was devestated when it was finally cancelled. I was thrilled to death when I saw it for sale. My mother and I are having fun rewatching our old favorites and my 13 year-old-daughter is discovering the fun and crazy antics of Burt, Jody, Chuck and Bob, Jessica, etc. I highly reccomend the entire series, it is more than worth the price.

One could easily become addicted to this show. Fortunately (or unfortunately) only three seasons were made! ;o) Marvelously clever, intellegent & heighly creative writing! Beautifully acted and directed. A spoof on soaps, using a delightful array of characters. If you're like me, you'll probably grow to love them all! Even if you don't like every character, you'll appreciate how they are interwoven into a colorful, facinating tapestry which touches upon many aspects of life. It seamlessly and gracefully covers the field of experience from birth & puberity to death and dying, as well as many socially unaccepted and often unaddressed subjects, such as infidelity, homosexuality, suicide, discrimination, aging, women's empowerment and disempowerment, etc. It does all this without offending the viewer and in a highly entertaining way. This is the show that launched Billy Crystals' career, as well as quite a few others. Many great scenes between Jessica & her sister. An amazing show that everyone can enjoy and everyone ought to watch at least once. A television accomplishment that blazed a trail for thought-provoking entertainment, which I wish the television industry of today would study, be inspired by & follow. Not many shows are written and executed as well as this one was. In my oppinion (if it's not obvious already) a must-see classic!

Soap was ahead of it's time.I am not big into comedy's But for anyone out there that LOVES IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA you will need to check SOAP out.It's nutty

I fondly remember the first time I watched soap. It was no holds barred comedy with a superb cast. Race, homosexuality, alien abduction, organized crime, mental illness, and sex are just some of the topics covered in a hilarious spoof of daytime soap operas. Billy Crystal and Richard Mulligan were especially funny although the entire ensemble did their best work on this show. Some of the best t.v. you will ever see. Not recommended to those who get offended easily, but for those with open minds this is a great addition to your movie collection.

What I like about this sitcom is during High School I would Watch this and it would crack me up. There is that chuck and Bob ...fa - nee !!

I first watched this American series when it was on, in the days when owning a video cassette recorder was a bit of a luxury, so resorted to taping just the audio on cassette tape and playing it back afterwards... I must be going down a personal memory lane... The Campbells and Tates' antics were amazingly daft, whacky, weird, sad, mad, and inclined to make you feel your own family was one notch above derangement after watching them... the beauty of eBay is you can find things you never thought existed, or had long ago faded into second hand stores, carboot sales or bargain basements...

Soap was a groundbreaking show in the '70's that deals with the lives of two sisters, Jessica Tate & Mary Campbell. It was the first to have a main character be openly gay, touched on the topics of infidelity, murder, blackmail, suicide and defined the term of "dysfunctional family".

In Season One, the Tate's and Campbell's deal with the murder of Peter Campbell, the impotence of Burt Campbell (as well as his later nervous breakdown leading him to believe he can become invisible), the many affairs of Chester Tate, Danny's attempt to leave the mob, and Jodie's affair with a professional quarterback and desire for a sex change operation, just to touch on a few of the many story lines.

For those of you raised on TV in the '70's, you will recognize many early performances and cameos by an assortment of soon to be classic actors, with the most prominent being Billy Crystal. But be warned that it is very addictive and hard to turn away from.

The actors portray the characters very well. Writing is superb and humor can be subtle or pratfall type. Start with the first season and follow along. More real laughs per episode than in any other sitcom of any era. To put it in perspective, I like Seinfeld, Kiss Me Kate (BBC Comedy), some of According to Jim, and the movie Airplane.

I loved this show when i was growing up and now that i have it to watch as an adult it's even better!!!!

I bought this as a gift for my mother, who used to watch this years ago. If you can keep up with characters coming and going, weird comedy, and plain stupidity without banging your head on the wall, it is very funny. The characters are never ending, and the twists are unexpected.

A good buy...but the neighbors will complain, because you'll be waking them up in the middle of the night by laughing so hard.

I DECIDE TO BUY IT FOR A GIFT BUT I FEW IT WAS POOR DUE TO THAT IT HAS BEEN OVER 30DAYS AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVE MY ITEMS. I HAVE ASKED FOR HELP AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT.

I bought this dvd because I grew up watching soap. I have always love this show even though some parts were stupid but still I couldn't see why alot of people liked real soap operas but this show made it worth watching because it made fun of real soap operas & every day life even if you was having a bad day! It made you laugh & think about the stupid things you did in life or growing up as a kid! I think my favorite episodes is where the devil gets inside the baby & Robert Guillame really made those episodes funny! I'm a heterolsexual but I think that billy crystal opened alot of doors for the gay community by playing Jodie Dallas in soap! I loved all the cast members that were in soap & became a fan of other shows that they had after soap. I'm curious to see what happened to some of the cast members nowadays! I know some of them are deacesed now. I'm glad to see that Billy Crystal got his start in soap & I'm glad to see that there are actors like Crystal that do care about the american people & do stuff like comic relief! Alot of people said that soap was nothing but trash when it was on tv but if you look nowadays alot of this stuff on tv now is trash!! I like to see alot of my favorites shows growing up as a kid coming out on dvd, it kinda makes tv worth watching sometimes!! I plan on getting all the episodes of soap on dvd & benson too!! If you have never seen soap, you should watch it as an adult & think about the stupid things you have said or did as an adult or as a child!!
