Small Change by Tom Waits (CD, Feb-1989, Elektra Entertainment)

What I love about this work of Tom Wait's is it's focus on a genre I call the dark side of the street in the thirties and forties. .

"Small change got rained on with his own .38. . and much more of the same.. all supported by a cast of characters meticulously and clearly placed and spaced by Bass, devilish snare drum, and those vocals; a profane Satchmo and then the beauty of Wait's poetic insite into LIFE. . he touches all of us.

Sensually, lustily, painfully grieving the one that got away. . it hurts so bad and good to have Tom to tell it like it is.

This is a forever keeper, like many other oldies like Nighthawk in The Diner. . I pray Tom goes back to this stuff; there is so much left to do here!

Loving it and tom traubert's blues. . .

excellent service and condition of cd. been looking for this cd for years. the cd was his first and i think it was his best along with the sound tract to One from the Heart with Chrystal Gail in duets.

An excellent album but not nearly as good as some of his other 1970's albums (The Heart Of Saturday Night comes to mind). It's good but you get the impression that he's not completely in his groove. Still, it's Tom Waits. Need I say more? 4 Stars.

I strictly bought it because the show girl is Elvira (Cassandra Petterson) on the cover. A 1975/76 picture of Cassandra in her Las Vegas Days, Long before she became the Mystress of the Dark.

Two words are all you need to describe this CD: Tom Waits. If you do not know Tom Waits you are in for a treat. If you know him than no other explanation is necessary.
