Going nowhere slowly, but still going on nonetheless!
Review created: 10/24/08

This is probably their best. The production is top-notch. This is pop-punk as good as any. It is melodic and has great variety. Deese boyses is talrented fer shore! This Seattle trio has nailed the genre just as well the faux British accent has been mastered with Mike's vocals. There are some punk classics here.

Mxpx is often philosophical but still does not wane in the fun dept. Their music is positive and often introspective. They are not overtly religious and their Christian background is not specified. Their music is clean, and clean in a variety of ways. While protest is still evident, it is not snot-nosed and beligerent. They consider relationships most often, especially romantic ones. Their call for authenticity is certainly warranted.

The cd starts off much the same as Life in General. In Another Day, Mike gets up and down the scale as easily as Tom's guitar does. I'm Ok, You're Ok is a pop favorite with a catchy tongue-twister chorus. Party at My House is reminiscent of Punk Rawk Show. Fist vs. Tact is probably the only song that hints at hardcore and has some unpredictable stalls. Mine is Yours has some original acoustic interventions making it a ballad almost. Inches from Life is probably as spiritual as they get as they consider human nature.

Most of the songs are two and half minutes, with many signature changes along the way. Mxpx knows how to keep things interesting. Mike is an amazing combination of vocals and bass. Tom is slick on the the guitar and gets some pretty cool sounds from it. Yuri, well Yuri made nerds cool. He has certainly come into his own. He owns his kit and is astonishingly solid back there. His fillers add so much without bogging the whole band down. He has certainly answered his critics.

While this cd isn't as raw as previously, it is polished and creative. It is not as repetitive as others in this genre. Although the lyrics can be somewhat ambiguous at times, they are often soul-searching and make the listener take their words seriously.

This is one of the best CDs ever made. Buy this so you aren't a loser anymore.

Oh, that's right.. this (along with Life in General) is one of only two MxPx's albums I don't have =( But that's ok, because I'm going to get it as soon as I can! =) But seriously, this is a great CD.

Slowly Did Go The Way Of The Buffalo

Actually, they quickly went the way of the Buffalo after their first album. It's become cliche now but it's true. They started with some fun punk tunes and went straight to the Christian Blink 182. Yawn.
