The reason I bought this DVD was due to the novel it was based on by Anne Tyler. The novel tells more or less the same story yet with no clear ending. As this was one of the texts employed by one of my Leaving Certificate English classes (and the fact that it proved impossible to drag your eyes over the words in the book for a second time), I thought it would be beneficial to view a production of the text. However it was not to be found anywhere in Ireland, the UK or Europe for that matter so I had to source it elsewhere, albeit as a Region 1 DVD. Thanks to the seller for making this DVD available. The movie itself was very good in my opinion, the protagonists played as close to the characters in the book as possible, yet Drumstrings came off as much too likeable a guy (in the book he is an ass!). I actually preferred the film over the novel - apologies to Anne Tyler!!

  Good movie, great soundtrack

This is not what I normally expect from Guy Pearce in that it was a somewhat normal movie, but it was great in that it gave him an opportunity to sing. I thought he did a great job and I highly recommend getting the soundtrack. As far as the movie goes, I didn’t know what to make of it as I was watching it, but it ended well and I left feeling like it was a nice love story.

A movie of life and trying to make best of it.
Review created: 03/16/07

I found the movie to be enjoyable on many different levels. For one, the music on here was really well done. Music wasn't anything fluffy or mainstream and the lyrics of the songs would hit a chord with anyone that has felt life slip away from the reality that they perceived it to be.

The plot of the movie is a basic story of trying to make the best out of life as well as making a change from the mundane. A love story that hits at the core of trying to make things work while keeping ones sanity in tacked through lifes challenges.

The acting was quite nice and the characters set a pace that I could relate to personally.

Again, best of all was the music, and all in all, it will make you think about the road blocks you may have had along your path in life.
