Sliding Doors (DVD, 1998, Widescreen)

I purchased the movie, G.Palthrow is certainly above average actress, plus my family wanted to watch the movie, recommended from someone else.
The story, about a hapless Brit who we follow during two alternate realities -- one stuck in a loveless relationship, one striking out on her own, is fairly fun but wholly improbable. Which is why this is a romantic comedy-drama and not a flat-out drama.The ending is not altogether satisfying, but it's certainly an original.

This film is about a aplit second life changing event all over actually catching a train. What happens to her if she makes it and what happens if she doesn't. An amazing film the keeps you guessing. Highly recommend

I like Gwen, so I watched this since she was in it. The story is a bit strange at first, so watch it twice so you get the plot. A decent film, perhaps overlooked by others. A little bit of the Twilight Zone meets modern relationship drama. MR

I really enjoyed this film..I wasn't too sure how this would work or even if it would work..but it does..Gweneth Paltrow does a fantastic job acting in two movies in one..The story is the same as always Woman works her butt off supporting a no good cheating man while he sits on his backside pretending to either look for a job or in this case write a book..in the first side of this film Gweneth gets fired then is mugged after missing her train..in the other side she actually catches her train and along the way she meets Mr. Right, but sees him as only a Friend to her horror and disbelief she catches her man(?) with another woman! She does as every Woman should do she dumps his butt then moves on with her life..while in the other side of the film she stays with her cheating boyfriend thinking her life is happy..no this film is far from confusing..and the way it's finally brought together is pure genius..I love the ending..this is definitely a one of a kind film that should not be missed by anyone especially those of you who love a good no a great love story!! I give this film 5 out of 5 stars!

I rarely give comedy/drama films an Excellent rating. This was just a perfectly done film. From the lay out, to the directing, to the acting. It was a show that followed two different lines that broke from a focal point of the sliding door. The two lives were both full of excitement and confusion and tears and laughter. It ends in an amazing way. This is one film I can watch and I'm not a big fan of drama girl movies. It just engages you.

Sliding Doors reveals how the course of your life can change in a flash depending on the choices you make & the obstacles in your path. Helen Quilley, wonderfully played by Gwyneth Paltrow, is a professional careerwoman whose mistakes have cost her her job at a prestigious London PR agency. Heading home she dashes for the Tube (London's Underground) and is delayed a split second by an innocent child playing with her doll on the staircase. Just as she makes it to the sliding doors of the train, they shut tight, leaving Helen frustrated & stranded on the platform. The scene backs up a few seconds where Helen is seen rushing down the stairs again, as the little girl's mother pulls her daughter out of the way allowing Helen to catch her train. From that instant on, 2 parallel story-lines develop, showing us how Helen deals with both her love life & career choices. Find out which scenario brings Helen the most happiness. Paltrow's take on a British accent was very impressive, at least to a Yank like myself. Two movies for the price of one!

I decided to buy this on DVD because I own it on VHS, but wanted it on DVD as well.

As for the movie, it is probably put into the category of "chick flick", but it really isn't. Step back and think, what would our lives be like if we made it out the door 5 minutes earlier, weren't hung up in traffic, didn't oversleep. Then what would we encounter, how would our day or lives be different. Would the difference of catching that elevator as opposed to not catching us put us in the path of someone or something really good or really bad? It also shows that things that were just meant to or need to happen in our lives will manifest regardless of the path we choose for that day.

I would highly recommend the movie, a strong cast. I think that John Hannah is a strong actor who almost steals every scene he is in just be his own natural ability and presence.

A lovely movie about what would have happened if... Great for a sappy night at home. I had fun watching Gwenyth Paltrow in both roles (playing the same person) and the supporting actors and actresses were great in their roles as well.

Not many movies were ever done with this type of subject. 2 views on what would have happened if you missed your train or if you did catch it. One moment and things can change you life. Excellent view of that concept. Worth viewing just to see what would and will happen. Must see.

good story, good acting, good reminder of how a life can change in a split second seemingly random event. I am thankful that God is in control so for the believer there are NO split second random events.

Tho I haven't seen this movie in many years, it was one of the most enjoyed ever. My grown daughter each have a copy and I thought it was time I also obtained one. As we look back at our lives, we often wonder what if...This is the story of a young woman whose life takes two different roads due to a split second move. Her two lives parallel each other with comedy, romance and deception..In this movie, Gwyneth Paltrow is at the beginning of her acting career and proves she has the quality to become the terrific actress she is today.

I really loved the back and forth in this... they really presented the alternates well. Unfortunately the powers that be here want more words, I personally thought the first sentense was enough.

I LOVE "Chick Flicks" and this a great movie. Have you ever thought of what would happen if you would have taken that turn, gone to that party, or made the choice. This movie lets you see the consequences of both sides.
side note: This movie inspired me to go really short with my hair.

Engaging, if somewhat standard romantic drama/comedy. GP is the ever-charming, adorable pseudo-Brit. Not life-changing cinema, but completely watchable.

This movie is really cute! It shows how her life would have turned out had she made the train and also how it would have turned out if she would have missed the train! The two stories interact with eachother, going back and forth. Gwenith Paltrow is really great in it too!

GREAT MOVIE, I HAD SEEN IT BEFORE AND WANTED TO GET IT FOR MY DAD. IT REALLY SHOWS HOW ONE DECISION CAN CHANGE THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. GREAT ACTORS, VERY GOOD MESSAGE AND VERY ENTERTAINING.

I SAW THIS FILM WHEN IT WAS FIRST RELEASED. IT HAS A VERY CLEVER STORYLINE. WITHOUT GIVING ANYTHING AWAY, JUST RETHINK A TIME IN YOUR LIFE AND (I'M SURE WE'VE ALL HAD THEM),WHEN YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOMEPLACE ON TIME AND SOMETHING CAUSED YOU TO BE JUST A MINUTE LATE. MAYBE IT MADE A DIFFERENCE.MAYBE IT DIDN'T. WATCH THE FILM AND ENJOY.

Sliding Doors is the story of the 2 different directions a woman's life can take. The crucial factor is whether Helen misses her train home or catches the train. It's a really inspiring story throughout either scenario. Plus, who doesn't love Gwenneth Paltrow.

The DVD itself offers the trailer and a couple of other special featurettes in the bonus materials. There are a couple of different language and subtitle options and, of course, scene selection menus.

I loved that they showed two different sections of her life, if she had made the train and if she hadn't and how it would be different...I loved the movie, reccommend it to all!

Overall great & imaginative storyline of 2 parallel possibilities. Nice how it demonstrates how much better a girls life can be if she doesn't throw it away on some loser with an "edge." Gwennyth Paltrow has the British accent dead on!

About the 2 different paths a life could take. Thought provoking, I thought, but my husband was bored.

this is a great and original movie when you finished seeing it you think if thats really happened i don't know but its kinda cool
