The Slider (Deluxe Edition) [Remaster] by T. Rex (Rock) (CD, Nov-2005, 2 Discs, Rhino Records USA)

I admit it. I am a T. Rex addict. I own 14 albums. I am the charter member of the T. Rex 12 step club. Some of the remixes, live recordings, etc. are definately better than others, and I own quite a few.

But "Slider" is one of the few things I own copies of on CD and the original album.
I've had the album since middle school, and my kid even has has a copy of it.

I bought a turntable specifically to listen to this one. I like Marc with snap, crackle and warble that he was intended to have.

From the Ringo Star cover photos showing a Wizard of Oz tin man top hatted look that would be stolen by Slash 20 years later to the esoteric name dropping in "Ballrooms of Mars", this album rocks in a way few others do.
Even if you don't understand the lyrics, you understand the sentiment behind them, a deep and profound sadness and even intellectual depth of the title song and "Spaceball Richochet".

A (gasp) thinking man's pop star with a wicked sense of humor, Slider remains one the most listenable albums by T. Rex. Their earlier Tyrannosaurus Rex incarnation and even the earlier T. Rex pieces sometimes sound dated and stilted, with their odd sitar and bongo drum, summer of love, hippie-dippy feel, but somehow "Slider" seems to have gelled for the group and really traslated into a work that has held up well over the years.

It has the sound of the time, but with a crispness that makes it as enjoyable today as the day I bought my copy of the album in 197...well, that's not important, now is it?
What's important is this is an album worth buying if you don't have it, and worth listening to regularly if you do.

It's a return to an era when the makers of blue glitter eyeshadow thought they had died and gone to heaven, the album embodies that time and holds in still for us to listen to in a way that manages to be nostalgic and fresh at the same time.

So put this one on the record player (or CD player if you must-I only bought a CD so I could listen to it in the car) and take a walk backwards through your memories and enjoy the summer of '72 all over again.

And gosh darn it, "Metal Guru" is just so darn fun to listen to. Well, yeahh, uh huh...

This set of songs is the soundtrack to my younger life. SmOoth classic tracks from Marc Bolan and The Rex, some old and some forgotten , every tune will remind you of a simpler time when music made you smile. Especially tracks like Slider and Baby Booomerang. This is a benchmark in GLAm Rock history that will never be forgotten. ROCK ON , ROCK ON YEAH YEHA YEAH!!!

If you just kinda like T-Rex, stick with the single disk Slider. But if you are a true T-Rex fan, you will love this Double disk. Disk 2 is unfinished versions of Slider without, all the over dubs. Some of my favorite songs are song that are simply Marc and his guitar. Bottom line, this is a must have 2 disk set for the true Marc Bolan fan.

This is a must have disc for anyone collecting 70's Rock, & Glam Rock it is
a classic benchmark early 70's disc that defines an era. This and Electric Warrior are T-Rex greatest efforts.
The Slider sounds as good today as it did 36 years ago.....

electric warrior is awesome, but this album refined and perfected marc bolans glam/punk/rock style of music. A must have for anyone trying to find something awesome and obscure.the extra disc in the deluxe edition is almost as good, "alternative slider" is all the songs in their unfinished, unpolished greatness.T.Rex afficinados will drool over this!!
