The Slave Ship
I originally purchased this book because I saw the author lecturing to an audience on C-SPAN. It intrigued me as it purported to tell about the slave trade from a total perspective-- the slaves, the captors, and the merchants underwriting the whole enterprise. As such, it is a mamouth task, truthfully described in dark brooding terms. It is enlightening, but difficult and its style does not lend itself to an easy read. It is best decribed as scholarly. So if you have a desire to be educated by a professor who has performed extensive research on the the matter, this should be on your reading list. For those who still wonder why blacks are so angry, this book should shed some light on the dark pools of ignorance that seem at times to be so pervasive.
The author writes from a bottom up perspective that obviously contrasts with the normal way history is related. What you wind up with is a challinging dicourse, if you're up to it.
