The Sky Observer's Guide by Jerome Wyckoff, Margaret W. Mayall, R. Newton Mayall (2000, Paperback)

All of the Golden Pocket Guides are good, solid information that fits...well, in your pocket. Mayall gives a good overview of basic stargazing, along with carefully (museum quality) drawn pictures of each star grouping and their characteristics. This book was last renewed in 1985- so be warned this is very dated, and at times, inaccurate material. All Golden Guide authors are eminent scientists and zoologists. You can't go wrong with kids or adults a like with a library fully of Golden Guides.
