Skull Mantra by Eliot Pattison -- an excellent book
) 
I stumbled on this at the Goodwill. An excellent first novel by a seasoned journalist. It reads well and has all the elements of a classic mystery at the same time as it reveals Tibetan philosophy as well as the current Chinese domination. The characters are believable and one cares about them and what happens to them. The protagonist is a delight.
