Skipping Christmas by John Grisham (2001, Hardcover)

I keep buying this book and then end up giving it to friends who have not
read it. Since the author is into writing mostly lawyer type books this is
about one of two that is different and it is a good book to read. I bought
it on Ebay because it is cheaper there.

I must admit- when my mother pulled this one on me I avoided it for months....then I got bored one day and opened it. I found myself laughing out LOUD. I couldn't remember the last time a book made me do that. I couldn't put it down. I remember reading it the first time simply shocked that legal thriller mastermind John Grisham wrote this book. It is worlds away from what he normally writes. It only took me slightly over an hour to read this book- it is very short and easy to read, but finishing the book absolutely blew me away. Putting it down I walked away knowing I had just read the best book I had read or was likely to read in years. I read this book in June so whatever time of year read it anyways, it will put you in a good mood even if holidays are months away. This book seriously is destined to become a classic. I have certainly never been so happily surprised by any other book- ever!

I enjoy reading all types of Christmas books and this one ranks up in my top list! Full of laughs and everyone that reads it will see themselves in the charactors at one point or another. You might want to skip Christmas but don't skip reading this one! Quick and easy to read - perfect for the busy Holiday Season reader.

This is a fast read. Easy to get into and not wanting to put it down. You find yourself laughing out loud to the point of tears streaming down your face. The Movie does not do the book justice. In the end it is a heartwarming tale. A different view of Christmas as we all know it! This is a must read!!

It is brilliant, so different, I couldn't stop laughing. I gave it to my grandaughter only 13yrs and she loved it also. To be able to reach the different generations like that is the sign of a real author.

If you've ever had thoughts of skipping Christmas yourself, you will enjoy this book. I love the idea of "Empty Nesters" breaking the mold and trying something new. You can just picture the characters in your mind as the story unfolds. You get the feeling you know people just like them in your real life.
Even if Christmas is your very favorite holiday, you will find even more appreciation for all the reasons that you love Christmas.

Skipping Christmas is an absolute delight and a departure from the typical Grisham writings. Those of us who celebrate Christmas and all its commercialism can identify with this story that has a twist. It is one that you will remember, but it is also a book/story that you will pick up and read once again. It is a story to be shared--this purchase was to replace my original copy, which has made the rounds of family and friends!

I loved this book because you never know what is going to happen next. It starts off with a typical married couple and then everything goes haywire. Their daughter decides to come home for the holidays at the last minute and expects to see all kinds of Christmas decorations, and they had made a point NOT to put up any - which was against their neighbors insistance. I laughed at parts and had tears in parts of this book. You definitely must read!

I just finished reading this book and LOVED it. I am not a huge fan of Christmas and all the commercialisim that goes along with it. I could totally relate to the Kranks...I would love to skip Christmas just one year! I am not even a fan of John Grisham, but I found that I could not put this book down. A very quick and easy read. I have passed it along to a co-worker right now. This one is a keeper.

Unusual Grisham book but a very easy read and cute story. Enjoyed it during the holiday season, a good thought provoker for the madness of the Christmas season we have built. Loved the ending as it showed the comming together of neighborhood and compassion of friends.

Great Book by a great author...once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. Super Great Ending! Highly Recommended to all those folks who feel overwhelmed with the Christmas Holidays.

This was a fun book to read, and one that you would not expect to come from John Grishim. They even made it into a movie with Tim Allen, and I bought that to compare with the book. While reading the book, I kept thinking what a novel thing for Grishim to write. It is so different from anything else he has written, you hardly know it is Grisham writing it. Take the time to read it, it is well worth the few hours. Hey, Grisham.....write some more like this.

I own several of John Grisham's books and this is the only one that I have neither read or own. I was interested in the book just because it was from Grisham and is not of his normal writing. I really like Grisham as an author and although I have not had the time yet to read this book I am looking forward to doing so.

I love this book mainly because it's written by my favorite author. I have never read a book by him I didn't like. I bought this book because I wanted to
add it to my collection. I haven't had the chance to read it yet but I'm sure
I will enjoy it. I know others who have read it and they enjoyed it too.

Having read the book, I wanted to pass it along to some of those who meant a lot to me. How refreshing ... what a great concept ... actually skipping such a meaningful holiday and doing something else; for yourself - how non-conformist - or is it trend setting?? Anyway, this is one great book. No dislikes on my end.

This is a light hearted, fast reading, enjoyable book. Completely different from other John Grisham books. It puts humor into the Christmas holidays. For anyone who has had thoughts of breaking their normal holiday traditions...this is a fun read.

I always thought this title sounded interesting, but I never got the chance to read it (or see the movie for that matter). It was GREAT! I sat and read it in one sitting but it pulled me through years of emotions. This is a great read no matter what time of year you come across it!

I wanted to do a reread of this book and the copy I bought on e-bay is in A1 shape. Grisham can tell a great story without killing anyone or using four letter words.
