Unique from any other RPG. Not sure if it's a remake or a sequel to the Dreamcast version.

It takes the game a little while to get going, but keep with it and you'll get awesome 4-man battles, intense battleship dogfights, and some slightly entertaining sexual references. One of my favorite games of all time. Any Final Fantasy fan will like it. With all the secrets and sub missions, there's at least 100 hours of fun gameplay.

In this game, the world is the sky! Everyone travels from planet to planet on flying boats. The game tells the story of a modern (future) day Robin Hood ---
The Blue Pirates steal from the rich to help the poor, always saving a little for themselves. From rescuing a mysterious girl to saving the universe, this band of merry men & women are always getting into and out of trouble, all the while helping those in need. A great role playing/simulation type game. One of my favorites.

I used to have this game. I sold it. I regretted it. Bought it again and am thoroughly enjoying it again. It has so much to do, so it has loads of replay value, and the story and characters are some of the most emeorable you will find anywhere. It may start off a little cheesy, but like any good RPG, once you're past the tutorial sections it's a total blast.

I picked up this game because I remembered it being pretty fun. It's a little kid rpg meaning it's not to hard and the story's not to deep. The graphics are bright and and have a cartoonish charm.
Anyone with younger kids (8 to 12) looking for something more than jump on the rock and grab the fruit may enjoy this game.

This game is absolutly AMAZING! I love it to every extent i can! it has a great storyline, great turn based battles, airship battles(my favourite :D) and a HUGE area to explore! In the game you take control of Vyse, son of the Leader of the Air Pirates group called the Blue Rogues. this game offers many hours of awe-inspiring gameplay! If you love RPGs then this game will make your life complete! If you see it in a store BY GOD BUY IT! It is one of the most difficult games to find in stores. Buy it now or you may miss out on the amazing game!

  Classic RPG perfection
Review created: 03/14/07

This game follows the standard formula for old school RPGs. Instead of trying to break new ground, the game sticks to its roots and is near perfect in everything it does. The story is engaging and has just the right amount of drama, comedy, romance, and plot twists to keep you hooked. The battle system is fun and doesn't get old. The difficulty is challenging enough without being frustrating. The graphics, while not being great by today's standards, are stylized quite nicely and set the mood very well. There is a lot to do in the way of side quests and mini-games, so it will keep you occupied for a while. Any RPG fan should play this game; they are bound to enjoy it.

I enjoy the game because it is child friendly and of the fantasy genre. It was perfect for my two sons, who enjoy playing. It was purchase for my son, made the Honor Roll and he had been asking for the game for about six months. Also, the price was fantastic, I couldn't resist.

Happy Customer,

  Skies the limit for adventure

The best RPG of all time was..... can you guess? Final Fantasy 3 (US, XI in japan) because not for it's graphic engine, but because of it's immersive story and wonderful sound. I still play it to the day. The same goes for Skies of Arcadia. The graphics may not be up to par with Gamecube standards, but this is the best RPG to date in my mind for Gamecube. The story is incredible, the battle system is neat, and the special effects are awesome. The air battles break traditional ground, and you just may scream at the television for Vyse to kiss the girl already! You become such a part of the game, it's hard to put down. The mini-games are a neat feature as well. Don't miss this RPG.

  The Best Game Ever Played
Review created: 07/01/06

This purchase was initiated by my fifteen-year-old son, who wanted it desperately. He had really liked playing this game on the Sega Dreamcast system and is enamored by pirates. He loves the GameCube version because the story line is extended beyond that of its Dreamcast predecessor. The "WANTED" list,he says, "is an extremely cool addition" to the features of play. He also likes the additional 'discovery' tasks in the game. Added side-quests make it even more exciting and fun. He dislikes the increase of 'Swash-Buckler' rankings needed to achieve the title of 'Vyse: The Legend.' Nonetheless, it was he who chose the title for this review, and affirms again that this is "the best game I ever played."

I haven't finished it yet, so I can't get into specifics. the battle system is unique, the overworld is unlike any other I've seen, and the music is pretty catchy. A great game that I'm looking forward to finishing.

The RPG that made me love'em..
Review created: 08/06/09

In a rush of retrogaming fun, I recently decided to re-buy some historical titles and among these the shining Skyes of Arcadia, maybe the last Sega masterpiece, already played in the immortal Dreamcast long ago and now enriching my precious cube collection.
This has been the very first RPG ever played. Just a few hours to get used to commands, characters and battles handling were enough to live a real experience made of epic land and air battles, funny dialogues and intriguing plot.
Graphics are remarkable still today, very coloured and detailed.
Game absolutely recommended to anyone!

  BUY and keep it forever!
Review created: 07/03/09(updated 07/03/09)

This is an amazing game, i bought it from my brother and played through it honestly over 10 times then regrettably sold my entire game cube stock including this game, then i bought another game cube and bought this game again, traded it in for credit at gamestop and now this will be my third time buying it again and i wont ever sell it again even if i get ride of the cube, Great story line plenty of side quests and heavy replay value, as others have said watching some long cinematics while replaying it can be a drag but its well worth it in my opinion and if your complaining about it possibly having childish artwork you ARE playing a GAME so get over it we care about gameplay here. And also on a side note this is a remake of the original dreamcast version but with revisions, such as the added moonfish sidequest which is a long one on its own, less random enemy encounters which is still kind of high, the "Angel of death sidequest, as well as more discoveries and an updated wanted list with more characters on it, and the side quests do tie into the storyline heavily, im not sure if it affects the ending but they do fill you in on things that otherwise you wouldnt know. also here are some scores from wikipedia this is not my own writing and i do not claim to have any part in it other than showing it to you.

IGN gave the game a 9.2, praising it for its "solid overall visuals, lively and appealing characters, excellent use of camera angles, and some of the coolest mechanical designs for the airships". GameSpot gave the game a 9.2 as well, also praising the visuals, stating that they were "some of the most painstakingly detailed ever seen in a role-playing game". As a whole, GameSpot concluded that the game "lives up [to] the high expectations". Game Informer also listed it as one of the top 10 Dreamcast games.

Its a great game cherish it and enjoy it, truly one of the greats up there with chrono cross, chrono trigger, breath of fire 1,2,3, and even final fantasy for you people out there.

Great update to a great game
Review created: 04/24/09

The original Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast was a good game, provided you had the patience to endure a random encounter every few steps. This aspect of the game which may have frustrated many into quitting the game has been removed from the Gamecube port, as well as new bounty missions.

Great story, great characters, and a good combat system make this a JRPG worth owning.

I had this title when it originally came out for Dreamcast, I regrettably sold my Dreamcast and really missed this title. It's definitely a unique title and I'd love to see another one. The game has interesting gameplay and unique character design with a great story. Unfortunately this is a rare title and if you get one in good condition like I did you should count yourself lucky.

One of the best games that I've ever played and in my opinion, SEGA's greatest achivement next to Sonic the hedgehog (Let's face it sonic fans, the sonic franchise has been dead for over a decade.).

Skies of Arcadia for gamecube-An original copycat
Review created: 02/04/08

There most Not be many RPG's to choose from on gamecube 'cause I saw alot of people giving great reviews(*saying it's the best RPG on the gamecube), but the game is retarded. It is!! It steal from alot of older rpg titles, which makes it predictable and traditional, but the whole sky thing is original and is it's own. Again, it is the traditional RPG and the storyline is sloppy with a bunch of stupid cheap one-liners that ruin it. I am still playing it, despite that and because I don't have another game to play yet, I will beat it eventually because it's an rpg that I started. I can see how many do like it though. I do like the way you learn spells, almost like a (Dragon Warrior/Quest)Dharma effect to learn them. This game is a little childish, but too grown up for a child to get into.... That's what I think all the same.

'Skies' Not your every day RPG
Review created: 06/22/06
by:
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

With a completely original storyline and turn-based combat, 'Skies' is a beautiful, fantastical RPG that fans of the genre will find easy to pick up. The storyline does not stagnate, and pulls apart from others of its kind, by setting the tale in a time of floating islands and Sky Pirates.

The gameplay itself is easy to pick up on, and controlling your ship is intuitive. The environments are lush and beautiful. While exploring is one of your main pastimes in the game, there are a few sections that lead you around by the nose.

My main complaint about this game, would be the long cinematics for special moves. Sure as they get up there, they're pretty neat to watch, but after the twentieth time or so, it gets a little old.

Also, don't be decieved by the "kiddie-style" graphics. This is a game that is sure to entertain those of all ages, and may even frustrate it's younger players by being a little too vague here and there.

Ship vs ship fights are long, and mandatory more often than not. Not necessarily a good thing. Dont expect to enjoy these battles, until you get your big cannon that is.

All in all, a great game for the dreamcast, fortunately ported over to the GameCube for the rest of us.
