As a huge fan, I never miss out on a book by Clive Cussler--irregardless of who the co-author is. Skeleton Coast is a novel starring Captain Juan Cabrillo, his gang of highly skilled and highly paid crewmates and their ship, the Oregon. The setting is in various spots in Africa. The crew of the Oregon are completing one of their "off the book" transaction for the CIA and encounter a beautiful security analyst from DeBeers about to be attacked by a group of pirates. Like all Cussler books, another plot line includes the kidnapping of the CEO of a European research company by his former partner, now turned environmental terrorist. The two seeming unrelated plots come together through the course of the book and the crew of the Oregon need to right a wrong, save the industrialist, rescue a disposed leader of a third world African county and prevent two ecological disasters. While not my favorite Cussler book, Skeleton Coast is an enjoyable, mindless read with twists and turns until the last page.

I love all of Cussler's books! His heroes are human (Juan Cabrillo has lost a leg in a prior adventure and this plays a part in Skeleton Coast) but with the all-American gentlemanly hero personality and smarts every man wants. Cussler injects the story with whimsy and technology and with all sorts of heroes (not just the main character, Juan). The characters are always flirting with danger as they doggedly pursue the main mystery but many other subplots filter in to present even more challenges but the heroes get hurt and they age. Cussler always starts his stories with a historic mystery that sound almost true and his characters find a way to solve it. I've always looked at Cussler's novels, whether featuring Dirk Pitt, Kurt Austin, or Juan Cabrillo, as a rollicking mix of the Hardy Boys and Tom Swift.

I have all of Clive Cussler's books, whether he wrote them himself or co-authored them. He knows how to write an entertaining, riveting story. This book is just a continuation of his excellent storytelling! I usually read murder mysteries, police/detective stories - but give me a Clive Cussler anyday and I'll read it first.

  " SUSPENSE, INTRIGE, MYSTERY

These same words are on the original film trailer for Casablanca. Every book by the Master adventurer authors, Clive Cussler and Jack Debrul is a delight in these attributes. This time the "Chairman" is in rare form. As usual the past of many years at the beginning of the book are tied to the modern end. Too often we read books for information, and internal inner soul meaning, but never with "Clive" This book is to be read for the pure entertainment, and the love of adventure. There is a point, but the action is where its at. This is a quick and very entertaining read.

Well, as an avid fan of Clive Cussler and his co-authors, all I have to say that it meets my expections. I had all of his books from the beginning to present, all in hardcover with jacket and 1st edition with some signed by Clive at the book signings that I have attended. I lost them all plus others to a serious house fire. Over time, I will replace them.

I am a Clive Cussler fan, and this series with Juan Cabrillo is excellent. If you like to read adventure stories, this is a series for you. I decided to buy this one, as I had read the previous three, and this is the last one in the series before a new one comes out in June 2008. I hated for this this one to end, as now I have to wait!!!!!!

  "Skeleton Coast"- Must Read It!

Anyone who reads Clive Cussler books knows how expensive they are if you buy them in a book store brand new. I was looking for a few of his books to give my dad, a Clive Cussler book reading fan, for him for a Christmas gift from me. I looked on ebay and found several way cheaper than you can find them in a store, one of which was this book. In fact, my dad is downstairs reading this book right now. The book was in such good condition, it was like brand new. Also, this book is a paperback produced in a larger size with bigger lettering inside. This made it perfect for someone like my dad, who has a hard time reading the text in small paperbacks, even when he's wearing his glasses. My dad seems to be enjoying this book a lot, just like he enjoys all Clive Cussler books. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
