Album Notes Contains 28 tracks. Personnel includes: Hank Snow (vocals, guitar); Anita Carter (vocals). Recorded between 1936 & 1952. Canadian-born country crooner Hank Snow set out to follow in the footsteps of his hero, Jimmie Rodgers (AKA "the Singing Brakeman"), building a name for himself as "the Yodeling Ranger" in 1930s and '40s. Later, when Snow's voice deepened, he opted for the moniker of "the Singing Ranger," which he used for many of his '50s sessions. This comprehensive four-disc Bear Family set compiles these latter recordings, where Snow sometimes collaborated with guitar great Chet Atkins or vocalist Anita Carter (of the legendary Carter Family). Among the many hits presented here are "The Golden Rocket," a train tale in the Rodgers vein, and "I'm Movin' On," one of the finest songs about wanderlust ever written, as well as Snow's Hawaiian-themed tunes "Hula Rock" and "Sing Me a Song of the Islands." Although this daunting collection may be more material than most country listeners might want, it's ideal for the diehard Snow fan.
