HAVING NEVER USED ONE BEFORE, IT WAS A CHALLENGE BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE UNFAMILIARITY. IT DOES A GREAT JOB AND MEETS MY NEEDS TO ADD SOME DECORATIVE TOUCHES TO PURCHASED ITEMS AND ALSO TO QUILTING.

After months of research I was convinced that this is the best machine in and above it's price range. Unlimited potential & very reasonable price. Smooth, quiet operation. Software was easy to install and manual is extensive. Tutorial DVD a nice feature though it could be more detail with regards to machine operation.
Bonus software that's available through many sellers makes this an awesome purchase. Couldn't be happier!!!

Never owned a sewing machine before...so learning how to thread the machine was difficult for me! Embroidering was a breeze because I have extensive computer experience. Figuring out where the machine will embroider takes some practice.

Ebay was the perfect place to purchase - my aunt bought the CE-150 for $100 MORE from a store than I paid for my CE-250 on ebay! It was as described - brand new in box & was shipped very quickly and I am VERY satisfied with my purchase! Thanks ebay & SewingInUSA.com!

I bought this machine because it got great reviews for the price and it had a lot of great software features that came with it and it stated I could digitize my own designs but the thing they didnt tell you is that the software that come with it is extremely poor when it comes to digitizing your own designs it just will digitize basic designs, say for instance a simple shape like a square or rectangle and that's about it. In order to digitize anything usable you also have to purchase $200 software that doesnt come with this machine. Also for lettering, to be able to emboider more than the 4 built in fonts you must purchase yet another $200 hyperfont software. Then on top of that to get really fancy you have to buy another $300 editing software that enables you to edit your own designs so they might actually be usable. Don't count on learning any of the extra software fast through any sort of manual or any helpful tutorials online. These don't exist. Each of the software packages comes with a cd in it and thats it! It takes many hours of trial and error but after a couple of months I am finally starting to create my own designs. Must have patience!
I did, however, purchase a few downloadable pre-digitized designs from various websites and ebay sellers and they work beautifully in xxx format on this machine! So you can save yourself trouble that way if you want to cut to the chase!;-)

  Wonderful sewing/embroidering/quilting Machine! LOVE IT
Review created: 07/03/08

This is a wonderful machine. It can be a little tricky at first, but it works great. I have used it several times to make embroidery designs and it is very easy to use the software and it produces beautiful results. It accepts all types of embroidery files and you can find plenty of free designs on the internet. I just used it yesterday for the first time with free motion quilting and it worked wonderfully. The deeper throat really helps. This was my first time machine quilting as I have always been intimidated by it and a hand quilter. I am hooked. I am already trying to find more things to quilt. For sewing it works perfectly. It is super easy to select which stitch you would like to use and the card with the all the stitches on it is a great help. There is a needle threader, my first machine with one, and it makes threading that needle so much easier. This was my first embroidery machine and I have had great success with it. When I was shopping for a new machine I was looking between the CE-150 and CE-250. What made me buy the 250 was more stitches and two embroidery hoops. This is my second Singer machine, I still use my Singer 1525 for piecing for my quilts but I now can do so much more. I definitely recommend this machine to anyone. It was very easy to learn and use. You may read reviews that are not the greatest, but those are for user errors. Read the book first. Errors while embroidering are usually from the tension on the top thread not being right. As soon as I discovered what I was doing wrong, I have not had a problem since. Definitely a 5 Star machine.

I decided to buy this machine because of the price. Looked at many others (Pfaff, Bernina, Brother). I like using the computer to power the machine. It makes the actual machine more like a printer. The software is okay, but took a little while to get used to. I haven't had good luck with Autopunch. Resizing seems to work well. You can add several designs and text to create exactly what you want before sending it to the machine. Easy to download files from the internet and accepts almost any format. Included designs were nothing fancy. The embroidery is not as crisp as some of the more high powered machines, but it does a find job. The machine is very picky. The threading has to be done just right or thread and/or needle breaks. Remember to put your presser foot up when threading and use the "horizontal" thread feed with the thread net. Two sizes of hoops for more options. Lots of nice included stitches. You cannot embroider on something small like a sleeve or the bottom of a pair of pants. If you can't spend thousands of dollars on a machine, this is a good choice. Just be patient when you are starting off. Good luck.

I am quite pleased with my purchase of the Singer CE-250. It is easy to use once you practice and become familiar with the materials, thread, and how much stabilizer to use! I love being able to digitize my own designs but that is also a skill that takes some practice. I guess I thought I would be able to jump right in and make everything I wanted and it is just not that easy. I am having some trouble with the machine accepting some of the designs that I have purchased. I think they are too dense and cause the machine to push the material down into the bobbin area. I have learned to 'dumb' down the designs so they are a bit more simple and less dense but I wish the machine would be good enough to accomplish the designs as I purchased them. Overall the machine is great for home use. I can not afford to purchase a high-end machine but if I could I think I would be much happier. I thank Singer for making a machine that allows us in the middle-class to be able to embroider!

This sewing machine has great capabilities and many functions. The user manual is very hard to follow and poorly written. The machine seems to be very sensitive regarding needle position and displays error messages with no guidance on how to correct them. Sometimes there are error messages and no error. I'm finding it hard to operate and am frustrated at this point. I'm looking for a local class to get some hands on instruction. Interestingly enough; I'm an old home ec teacher with very updated computer skills and should be able to figure it out! The regular sewing features are easy enough but the embroidery unit is difficult and sensitive. I've had the machine since Jan. 2nd and have already broken 6 needles.

Not easy to work as they describe. Go test it out at a store before you buy it. It will just be another piece o machinery at your house.
