SingStar Rocks! (PlayStation 2, 2006)

Note: I am reviewing the product that has been officially released in the US. This is NOT the UK product I am reviewing.

Yes, you get to see the original music videos that accompany the songs. And yes, your voice gets recorded by the microphone so you can play it back. But that's pretty much all the plus sides to owning this horribly done game.

The microphones are not compatible with other karaoke games AND the game isn't backwards compatible with other microphones. So there's no way around buying the entire package.

The game comes with about 30 songs. You can't unlock anymore. Once you have sung them, you're done. The songs are also poorly chosen. Unlike Karaoke Revolution, the songs are either recognizable OR they aren't, based on what generation you came from. They are either SUPER OLD or SUPER NEW. So it isn't really a family fun game because the adults will get about 10 songs to choose from, the kids will get about 8, and everything else in the middle is stuff you've never heard before.

The game gets old fast. Really, the only point is to raise your score. You can't unlock characters, new songs, new features, or anything. So you just keep singing the same song over and over and over again until you get better at it. It won't happen. The screen set up is really confusing and it becomes difficult to understand what notes you should sing, how fast you should sing, what parts of the song you did great on, where you should improve....etc. Basically, it's confusing and poorly organized.

Bottom line, buy Karaoke Revolution. There's a reason why SingStar goes for cheap on Ebay and why so many people bid on Karaoke Revolution. It's just a better game in general. SingStar is a HUGE WASTE OF MONEY.
