This is one of the best albums by Half Japanese. Originally released simultaneously with OUR SOLAR SYSTEM in 1984, the album's expanded line-up and vigorous rhythmic grooves contrast with its mate's sonically dense and punkish garage bearing. This was also among the last albums David Fair did with Half Japanese.
Time and again David Fair is able to take simple metaphors and phrases and fashion catchy anthems out of them: check out "Acupuncture." Jad Fair's "Firecracker Firecracker" first appeared here, and is one of the best entry points for the uninitiated. Additionally, Half Japanese's cover of Bo Diddley's "Dearest Darling" is a marvel.
