Never fear simple soldering again!

his is a terrific little book with clear explanations and photos, for the person who ISN'T interested in becoming a steam fitter but needs confidence to approach simple, jewelry soldering problems. In addition to clear instructions and photos to solidify one's information, the author Lisa Bluhm makes several creative suggestions on how to use soldering in other ways. She identifies the materials you need and explains how to use them very well.
From setting up your workspace, to acquiring only the "essential" tools, Bluhm gets you started without feeling you need a mortgage first. I also appreciate her section of safety - far too many artists forget about safety goggles and masks until there's an accident.
Bluhm does not assume you know anything: her instructions clearly take you from beginning to end, and yet do not make the reader feel as i she is talking down or condescending just by being as cl ear as can be -- She even reviews smple wire-bnding techniques.
What I like best about the book - a bonus is its size and ability to lie open on my work area - is the feeling I get when I look at its complete projects: none of them look as if they are too good to be true. Soldering like this is not an exact process and not every line is smooth and even - that takes practice. And this is a wonderful place to begin. The book exceeded my expectations.
