You’re the pilot of a SA-77 Silpheed tactical fighter spacecraft and you need to save the earth’s Grayzon computer defense system from attack. You’ll soar through 11 battle stages with left and right main weapons and a choice of optional systems like the Graviton bomb, the EM Defense System, the Photon Torpedo, and the Anti-Matter Bomb. Clear Channel voice alerts from other pilots warn you of incoming trouble.

  What say about Silpheed?

The rating excelent option is a good start, but Silpeed is more.

One of the most remarcable shoot'em up of the video-games history. Full of enemies, deadly cenarios (yeah, some asteriods of the backgrouns are not exactly on the backgroud), it's dramatically fast (you will get lost sometimes).

Well, the polygons without textures may look ugly today, but on 1993 was good. But the game is not a realy 3D game, it's a 2D shooter whith a perpective, the enemies apper small on te top of the screen but while they are close, they get bigger.

Silpheed was called a Starfox killer on 1993, but it is not true. Silpeed has better grafics, but Starfox is a complete diferent game. Starfox you control the ship from back. Silpheed is a regular shooter, you see the ship from above, like a 2D game.

Well, I strongly recommend that all play this game at least once on life.

  silpheed for sega cd
Review created: 01/31/09

silpheed is a shooter for sega cd where you pilot the SA-77 "Silpheed" Tactical Fighter Spacecraft. the game sports some impressive polygons (yes POLYGONS!) for its time with mind blowing cut scenes and full 3D backgrounds. the music is cool and does a good job of following whats happening on screen. its also in full cd sound quality. you only have one life in silpheed and if you die the game ends but your ship does have shields that can withstand a decent amount of damage and can be repaired with powerups you find. between levels you can select a couple different weapon configurations. the boss battles are hard but are doable. the whole game is easy compared to other shooters I've played like Robo Aleste but hard enough to be challenging. all in all a very good game that's worth buying.

Silpheed -- a must-have title for the Sega CD
Review created: 12/21/02

Pros:
Great graphics and sound; fine voice synthesis; solid shooter; essential title for system

Cons:
Hard as hell

Ah, the poor, ill-fated Sega CD! Perhaps the only system with more junk titles made for it was the horrible, horrible Atari Jaguar. Unlike the Jaguar, however, there are enough quality Sega CD titles out there to make hanging on the the Genesis add-on worthwhile. Silpheed is one of those nifty little games that will save your Sega CD from being tossed up on eBay like a pile of unwanted garbage, so rush out and find it. Now, I know what you're thinking -- "I had the DOS version of this game. It sucked!" Indeed, that's all too true. The DOS version of Silpheed was downright awful. Fortunately,..

Borrow it or rent it, but don't buy it. Try StarFox instead.

Pros:
Cool graphics for a Genesis title.

Cons:
Boss enemies are wimpy looking, can't fly around freely.

I had this game when it first came our several years ago, and we were so looking forward to the greatness this game was hyped to be, and all the game mags had the awesome pix of what looked to be a title that you might buy a Sega CD for. When we got it and played it, we were awed by the great backgrounds, but it was bittersweet because you cannot fly around the areas freely. It scrolls along more like a movie in the background and you can only move around in this little space of that large area. Secondly, many of the boss enemies are very wimpy looking. If you have ever played StarFox on the..
