Silent Hunter III (PC Games, 2005)

The good : Great graphic, Huge replay value, switable dialogs and Very Nasty AI. ~ all in a single DVD.

The bad: You have to download the latest patch in order for everything to work properly, otherwise, you have a game that crash more then Window 95. Also you can't dumb down your enermies ~ sure, you can god mode your boat, but what's the point of that?

The ugly: Beside the patch problem listed above - this game had REALLY LONG missions; some of your crews sometime had problems following your orders - likely a bug.

Conclusion - This is 2 of the only 2 respectable miltary sims that come out of 2005. Sad choice for the consumers, but not too sad because it is a quality game.

I love the free range of this game, and being able to go anywhere to "hunt" for for ships. This game makes you feel like you are in total control of the sub, because you can manage every aspect of its operations. There are two things though that I do not like. The first is that when you save and exit a game you do not get to start out exactly where you stop at, it makes you start back at the docks even if you are in a battle. The second is that if you are using the deck gun to shoot at a ship, and lets say that the ship is 3000 meters out if you switch screens you loose the range that you had and it goes back down to 500 meters. Besides that it is a great game.

Ok game but very detailed. Not for novice gamers. Bought it because I had heard that it was a good game. The game takes awhile to learn and master.

and break out in a sweat as the depth charges fall.

Being and avid player and fan of SSI's Silent Hunter II, I can highly recomend SSIII to all sub sim players. Same basic gameplay as Silent Hunter II but with gorgeous graphics. The dynamic weather and rough sea effects are outstanding!

Best of Series, Wonderful Details, Fun, fun, fun...I had Silent Hunter 2 and a friend of mine ran Silent Hunter 3. Hunter 3 was so much more fun, more detailed, more interactive, I have a blast everytime I run this game. I just got the Silent Hunter 3 attachment game as I plan on spending many more hours mastering this game. I even heard Silent Hunter 4 was not as good as Silent Hunter 3 in the reviews, I don't know about that, but if you have one or two version then by all means spend a few more bucks and purchase SILENT HUNTER III. I like the Campaigns, just hate getting sunk and starting again as I worked so hard and then died. Oh well, that's gaming, that's war... Enjoy, Rick

I love sub simulators. I have played alot of them aces of the deep silent services these are very good. so good i have orderd part 4.

I strongly suggest installing the Gray Wolves aftermarket mod. It changes the game by a lot, for instance when you see an airplane you dive as you may not make it through! The mod is Amazing! New graphics, scenarios, more ships, wow

The stock game in itself is very good as well. This is my fourth time I'm buying as I keep on loosing the play media. Don't buy if you have other stuff to be doing. Game is really time consuming (in a good way), some die hard fans play in realtime only!

This game is detailed to the point of being one of the most realistic real time games, if you have endless time, like being stuck in an RV on location, you can appreciate the endless patience developed by U boat commanders. A++

I have owned all of the versions of this game, from the original to this one, and they keep getting better. The graphics and sound on this newest version are great. My only dislike is in the 'Naval Academy' training scenarios. You will get a message saying that you have successfully completed the exam, however if you exit out of the scenario and click 'go back to base' the game does not always recognize that you completed that session, and you will have to do it over agagin, which is annoying. Other than that, this game is well worth owning.

When the action of the game is to its' highest level and one has to make faster moves the pointer on the screen goes haywire. Sometimes it freezes and sometimes it is uncontrolable. Just when one needs the controls to work, they don't work properly. Other than that I love the game.

game play and graphics were good. sound was good. a few days into playing the game the game went into a game pause mode which i cannot get out of making the game unplayable. found out it was a defect from the factory that is a common problem with this series of silent hunter. to bad game had good promise.

I've been looking for a good sub game (regardless of platform) since Nintendo's Silence service in the late 80's. I even (sort of) liked the Silent Service for PC in the early 90's, but it was average. NOW THIS GAME prompted me to BUY ALL THE SILENT HUNTER GAMES! I don't think I should have popped this in first but I have to say i was blown away by graphics alone. Controls and operation are a bit overwhelming, but i have to read and get use to. A great WW2 game. BUY IT!
