Silent Hill 4: The Room (PlayStation 2, 2004)

Any of the horror-gamers out there will already know about this series. The evil town called Silent Hill drags unweary souls into a hellish nightmare of moaning demons, aggressive ghouls and psychological terrors.

Being quite a linear gaming experience, you may not have much use for replay; however you will get alternate endings depending on the difficulty level selected.

My personal favourite feature of this particular game is when you think you saw something in the apartment (which is played in first-person) such as a child standing, staring at you, or a severed head float across the window and move back to find it isn't there. You end up wondering whether you really saw something or if you just need to stop gaming at 3am.

The sounds and ambience in this game are unmatched. Where other scare-tactical games will catch you on a "boo" startle, Silent Hill 4 will have you staring at the screen while you hear a person wailing from the next room. More than once I've muttered, "N-No... I'm not going in there." Other times in the game the sounds of children laughing from long, dark corridors will have you cringing.

All around, it's a great game and well worth the purchase. Figure out the mystery of the room and how someone managed to lock you in from the inside. Oh, and there IS that disturbing hole in the bathroom that leads into the darkened heart of Silent Hill...

Doesn't match up to the previous silent hill titles, lacks the real fear that we've had in the past. Although it has a great plot and story, amazing graphics and settings, but is an extremely easy game to complete. There is a shortage of difficult puzzles and challenging opponents. The camera angles are frustrating, and it doesn't have that real imagination that we've seen in the other. It's worth buying for a die hard fan, but if your new to silent hill, try the others first.

+ Better combat system but still no where near perfect.

- 1st person gameplay tends to be a bit sluggish & makes things harder on the player.

Silent Hill 4 explores a variety of creepy levels & has quite a new style when it comes to the demonic creations within the game. The style leans much more towards Japanese horror films. There are many creepy sights to see in the game that may shock you.

Must play for any survival horror fan. Must have for any Silent Hill fan.

This is a great game filled with Easter Eggs! This game tells the fate of Walter Sullivan from Silent Hill. The Superintendent is related to James from Silent Hill 2. The Hope House (In this game the Wish House) makes another appearence! The game does not follow basic Silent Hill storyline but it does follow Silen Hill gameplay! You must once again fight through various areas while trying to figure out why you can't leave your apartment. This game has good graphics and cutscenes for a PS2 game as well. Overall a great game.

I really like this game, but it probably isn't a very good game for young kids. Alot of killing, blood, and ect. This is more like a RPG game, you have to find your weapons and items and try not to die doing these things.
This is one of the better Silent Hill games. I have alot of fun and aw (the gore) playing this game.
But it if you are a adult, you will get a kick out of the monsters, they came up with some really good slmost dead monsters.

This is a great addition to the legendary series that is becoming a movie hit.. I really like these games they are a challange all the way through. Try this one out if you are looking for some horror game challanges

well i must tell you the real truth i really love all silent hill games im 48 years old and love to play video games and i use cheats lol but the room is a great game and love lots of things about this game 1 that i can play it with cheats 2 the game is well made 3 i know that ppl of all ages will love it to if your into horror.I really didnt disllike anything about this game it was well done and yes tere were lots of hard parts to get trough but when you do you feel great.I bought this game cause i loved silent hill 2 and 3 and just knew that this game would follow in tere footsteps and boy does it. If you are thinking of buying this game make sure you like horror and the other silent hill games before and if you do woww this game is awsome soulfix

My daughter wanted this game for Christmas. I can't give a review because I have not seen or played the game. She has said that she has played it and enjoys it very much.

what i like is the thrill the game offers in the game play if your looking for that scary feeling even in the day it will get you. Also the control buttons are the same as the previous games. What i love is the story line the producers do such a great job with new monsters and the grafics are actualy decent. Above all great game if you like stragidy and jurney games with action. i gove it 5 STARS* * * * *

The game is scary enough to buy. Your character is trapped in his own apartment. Weird things start to happen, a mysterious hole in his bathroom appears and he crawls into these demonic worlds and meets other people who seem to be in the same position as your main character, however they always end up dead or brutally murdered before he's about to wake up in his own bed again.

While youre inside his apartment, youre in first-person-view mode. When youre in the other worlds, its not first person. your apartment will eventually go through numerous haunting phases, whether its a human-like monster coming out of your wall, a crying doll (there was one time it was standing in the hallway) poison on your wall, blood from the faucet, i heard theres a dead cat in the fridge, footprints in blood, clock races, tv's on, ceiling fan falls, the antagonist of the game will even speak to you, paintings can become posessed, you'll even see a shadow of a boy in your closet.

Like I said, This silent hill is pretty unique. Its a good game to buy.

The reason I rate this game so poorly is because the game play is monotonous. It starts off unique and interesting; you're character is trapped in his apartment by a mysterious force and you must check everything in your environment to find a way to escape. The game starts going downhill for me after you discover a hole in the wall that leads to an alternate world, then you end up back in your apartment, go through the hole again to another world, go back to your apartment again... well you probably get the point.

Other downfalls of this game include the long crawl-through-the-tunnel-scenes to go back and forth from your apartment to the other worlds to unload items, some annoying monsters that can't be killed, some monsters that had potential but just turned out lame, and the lack of boss fights.

This game only has a couple of saving graces, but I don't consider them to be enough. The idea of being trapped in an apartment is a cool and unique idea. The traveling to the boring alternate worlds on the other sides of the holes is what ruins it for me and eventually the whole apparent thing just wears off. The storyline is quite intriguing but doesn't offer enough replay value for me to want to play it again and relive the whole experience, like in the other Silent Hill games.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend buying this game unless you are a die hard fan/collector of the series. If that description doesn't fit you, but you are a survival horror fan, it's worth borrowing or renting just to give it a try and see what it's all about for yourself.

First of all SH4 has nothing to do with silent hill. And it doesn't even take place in the town of Silent Hill. I didn't like it that much just because I thought it was stupid that all of a sudden a hole just come out of no where in your bathroom and you have to go in the hole in order to go anywhere. And further in the game the hole gets bigger WOW!!!. And also you can't hold that many item if you forgot some in you chesterdraw in you livingroom you have to go ALL the way back and get it what a waste of time. And further in the game you get a handgun which it really pointless cause you can use the steal pipe on almost all the monsters there pretty easy to beat. Also you don't get that many guns in the game [like you really need them} most of your weapons are like golf clubs, baseball bat, ax, steal pipe etc. And you don't get that many health packs either. And I think it's very stupid that you have to go back to you aparment in order to save your game. There are no save points. But if you have never played SH 4 it's not really that bad of a game IF you can find it pretty cheap.

I have played SH 2, 3 and 4, and this one is the most disturbing in my opinion. In the other two, it wasn't as scary after a while, but SH 4 always scares me thanks to the ghosts. Speaking of the ghosts, they are very annoying. There is no way to kill them (because they are already dead :p), and just by being a certain distance away from them will damage you. That means most of the game you have to run away, and fast (because ghosts are slightly faster than you are), and that's really the only thing I don't like about this game. And they make the most disturbing sound ever when you are near them.
Otherwise, 4 is pretty much the same as the other titles. Although in this case, you visit all the place twice, meaning less exploring to a certain extent.
A must have, for sure.

I love the silent hill series and have always been a fan. The graphics are decent, considering the time it was developed and the audio is good, except that the main character seems to be bored most the time. It has some annoying sound effects and load times kill the immersion sometimes, but overall, a solid title. Good storyline, though slightly confusing.

This is a great game. I played it a while ago and have never finished it. I can't wait to continue were i have left off. The game works great, and everything was done they way it was said to be done. Thanks very much for the business and a pleasure.

I have played and beaten every Silent hill Game there is, except this one and Homecoming. This is the first time I played this game, and WOW, different, but cool. Im not done yet, but so far, they have introduced so many new ways to show creepy. the story is so far awsome. think about it, you live in a apartment, you have a dream, over and over, and the next thing, you are not allowed to get out of your apartment. everything is still going normal, outside your door and windows, but in your "Room" its going weird.
They have introduced new enemys, like the dogs, ghost, big a** worm, and so far wall people. the invironmetn, looks creepy as hell, and its smooth playing. when your in the room, its first person, which sucks, but once your out, its back to normal.
I can not wait to play this game to the end, they have gotten better with everyone, and im lloking forward to it. If you have never played, spend the extra money, and get 1, then 2, then 3, and this one, and finish it off with origins. (Have not played homecomming, but try that as well) You will NOT be disappointed. being a fan of resident evil games, these are by far the best.(res 4 was really good though)

Game play is redundant and boring. This was supposed to be one of the scariest new video games on the market, and I was finding it difficult to stay awake. The first three silent hill games are much better.

very good storyline. bought it because i played the last 3 games, and the scariest one yet. would buy from same seller again cuz it ACTUALLY included the pamphlet. ;)

it was cheap and its a fun game to play my dislike is that they send me a cracked case and i would have to buy another same game

This game scares the crap out of me! I just moved into a new apartment and this game totally makes me wish I had roommates!

Excellent, it really scares you from the very beggining... just as the past 3 silent hill games.

I really recommend this if you want something to scream and jump of your chair about.
