I am so happy with my new lens. Great price, great lens, great delivery time. I own a Nikon D70 and was having a hard time finding a 70-300mm that was in my budget yet was a quality lens. When I saw this product on ebay, I had hesitations because it was the lowest price I had found anywhere for a brand new lens and the fact that it's also a Macro. Sounded too good to be true. My lens arrived exactly one week from purchase date. I opened it up immediately and tried and was pleasantly surprised. It's by far better than my Nikkor lens. The quality is amazing and it's brighter. I'm glad I took a chance. It's a winner! {:O)

I don't like this lens. It make the camera inoperable in automatic shooting mode. Also the pictures are really dark with this lens.

      Sigma 70-300mm for Nikon
    Review created: 06/22/08

I wanted to have a second lens to sort of play with. This lens proved to be a good choice. The zoom range is good and the macro works well. The sharpness of pictures taken at 300mm on a D80 are not as sharp as those taken with the Nikon lens I have. The lens functions well with all the settings on my D80 camera although the autofocus is a bit noisy. However, considering that the Nikon lens cost about 5x as much, this lens is a good choice even if it is the only lens you have.

The macro mode probably will require a tripod. It is difficult to stop camera motion which causes fuzziness even at fairly high shutter speeds. With a tripod, all works well and I was able to take some quite sharp pictures. You might be a bit disappointed that the 70mm zoom does not give a very wide view. My suggestion is to pick up a second lens for the low zoom range. You can cover the range from about 18mm to 70mm or 135mm with reasonably priced lenses from a number of manufacturers, including Nikon and Sigma.

All in all, if you are looking for a zoom lens that gives very good pictures and is reasonably priced, I think you will like this lens.
