I had the Nikon version of this lens...I loved it! It is (was) a bit faster. Unfortunately I came to that point where I really needed some pro quality glass and had to make a hard choice. I had to sell my Nikon 18-200. I put the money to good use, but I sure missed the "all around" qualities of a super zoom. I was surfing ebay one afternoon and came across this lens. The price was perfect. I was skeptical, but the price...well. When it came I was impressed. I feels good in hand...solid. I like the finish. I slapped it it on my D300 and got after it. Since then I have used it as my all around carry lens on my D80 and 300. No, it is not as fast as the Nikon...6.3 to 5.6 is not that much difference, but the difference is there. The image quality is on par with the Nikon...maybe even a bit better. It is a little slower to focus and I do mean a little slower. It is not as slick as big brand, but that doesn't mean that it is clunky. It just feels a little heavier and not as refined, but that also inspires confidence. It seems to lock up tighter to both my cameras. It feels like if you bump it around it can take it...it is funny. I never felt that way about the Nikon. The OS? It is quiet and effective. I can hand hold waaaaaay don there in the "don't do it" range and still get the shot. That's what it is all about...right? Getting the shot. I have to say, if you have the scratch...get the Nikon. At just over half the price, though, the Sigma is no slouch and even has some qualities that make it more than an equal. Take the extra money and get you a good 50mm f1.4 or 1.8.

  Great Lens for the price

I wanted to buy an all purpose lens for my Nikon D200 but didn't want to spend too much money at this time. I would love to have the Nikon 18-200MM VR lens but the price was a bit out of my range. After reading several reviews on this Sigma lens, I went to my local camera shop and played with it for for few mins and decided to buy one here on eBay for a lot less money. I love this lens and it take great pictures. I recommend this lens for anyone looking for a multi purpose lens. Time owned, 3 months.

  Another great Sigma lens

Sigma makes great lenses and this one is no different. I just used it on its first outing and shot under various conditions - cloudy, incandescent, and mixed lighting, and it did great on all of them.

The OS is fabulous and I was able to get shots inside a museum without a tripod and without having to open it up wide. Fast auto focus too.

As another reviewer noted, it IS a heavy lens and gets heavier as the day goes on, but better that than a cheap piece of junk.

My other Sigma is a 10-20mm and I highly recommend it as well.

I just test it inside.
I think it's satisfied.
But their ship is little late.
Anyway, I satisfy their item and price.

Review Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS for Nikon
Review created: 02/08/09

I bought this lens hoping it would live up to the hype and a few positive internet reviews I'd read. It was a big disappointment; the Auto Focus feature didn't work correctly. Mounted on a tripod to photograph small objects well lit from 4 sides, it would not focus accurately. Even after turning off the AF, focusing manually and turning the AF back on, the lens would re-focus itself incorrectly.

It appeared the lens may have been mishandled in its journey from Japan to a US distributor of gray-market items. Sigma Photo verified this by the serial number and lack of any warranty card in the packaging. While I want to pay the best possible price, there is no point in saving $50.00 and having to give up auto focusing. I never tried the Optical Stabilization feature because the Auto Focus didn't work.

Like other Sigma products I have used the lens seemed to be well built of quality materials. It produced sharp images with excellent color rendition when focused manually but there is no point in paying for an Auto Focus lens that doesn't do whit is designed to do.

Fortunately for me, the seller took the lens back and immediately refunded the payment with no questions asked. Shopping eBay sellers with over 1,000, 100% positive feedback comments pays off. I would not hesitate to buy from that seller again if they had something I was looking for.

  Great value for the money!
Review created: 02/04/09

This lens is perfect for someone who really needs a 18-200mm lens and doesnt have over $600 to shell out for the Nikon lens. It works perfect, motor is silent, glass is true and clear. I would easily recommend anyone to this lens. I am no expert but for a little over $300 i got a true deal! thanks to Cameta camera for the great transaction as well!

I am very happy to have bought this lens. I bought it from ebay because microsoft has 25% money back. Well, the discount is only a prompt of buying. The important thing is to get what you really want. I am very satisfy to this lens. I hate I haven't bought it earlier, even no discount. Thanks ebay and microsoft give me this prompt.

Overall a great buy! The only thing is it's weight, the lens is a little heavy but otherwise I would highly recommend it. It's been my workhorse since I bought it and a great workhorse it is.
