R. Lee Ermey at his best.
If you liked R.Lee Ermey in "Full Metal Jacket" this is your flick. This was one of the first Viet Nam movies starring an actual Vet and contains some of the best military one liners ever filmed. Although there are Hollywood moments, the film does an excellent job at authenticity in most every aspect and gives the viewer an insight into the emotions and tactics on both sides and the sacrifices that were required just to stay alive in the events leading up to "Tet". There is no shortage of military carnage and action with contrasting characters and political convictions that reflected the volatility of that era, even in the military.
For a "B" movie, it got missed by a lot of viewers the first time around which is a shame because it is outstanding and has Ermey's fingerprints all over it!
