Sid Meier's Railroads! (PC Games, 2006)

Sid Meier's Railroads! is both a great and fun game for all ages. It's easy to learn especially with the in game tutorial. This game lets you be a business man allowing life-like industries and cities become integrated in the world's industrial era 1850's - 1950's. Each locomotive engine in the game can only carry up to 8 loads of cargo; wished they'd carry more or allow multiple locomotive engines.

The graphics are great but sometimes can lag the game if you don't have a capable graphics card/computer to put up with it. The game level can be set at your own level and there is also a total of 3 AI figures that you can compete with. This game is pretty fast paced as you only compete to win from 1850-1950 (100 years) before your final score is determined and the game ends at which point in time you can continue playing the same game or start a new one. Sid Meier's Railroads! game can be repetitive but fun and exciting at the same time!

Good game but a memory hog... runs slow on mid scale computers. Found that RR Tycoon has the the same basic features and some that I wish were included in this game. Graphics are great but again unless you have a high speen computer... jitters and mouse response is slow.

Great games, fun concept, okay graphics. Problem is, very shaky compatibility with video cards. Crashes too frequently. Not friendly with Windows XP and graphics larger than 800x600.

I like this a lot better than the Railroad Tycoon series... it is much less tedious and more involved in the gameplay.

Great game, a little slow at getting the game going.You know how it is when you just want to do it all.Takes time,so don't get mad.Once you get the tracks built and the trains going ,there's nothing like it. My Grandson (5 years) has thanked me over and over.He loves to see the bridges and tunnels.He's also learning the names of towns through each map.It does get slow when the trains are unloading.The sawmill is so neat loading logs on the train,...every depot does different task and you can watch your train load and unload.I give my grandson the mouse and he plays by himself.I'm 55 and I enjoy it. You just get in a different world when you play.Thanks Sid Meier's for another great reasonably priced game.

My 9 year old son bought this for doing well on his report card...he loves it. He said its easy to play and the graphics are great....of course hes a big train fan lol.

Good game. The kid who is obsessed with trains loves it. Make sure you have good memory and graphics card.

Love the game! Have spent many hours with it. I enjoy the concept and being able to play in specific geographical locations.

I bought this for my 12 year old son. Both him, and myself have become proficient on the older Railroad Tycoon II and when we saw that a new "Railroads" came out, I bought it for the both of us.

"Railroads" graphics are the big standout in the Railroads game. I have a 2003ish clean running Pentium 4 @ 2.66GHz with NVidia graphics card and 1GB of RAM and I had to turn the graphics on this game to minimum in order to get keep the picture from being herky - jerky. It asks a lot out of the graphics card.

The older Railroads II game can go deeper into "complexity" or "Realism" than the Railroads game does, but that is ok because the graphics are like eating desert to the eye and there is plenty of strategy in the newer "Railroads" version.

Having read some of the reviews listed here, I am reminded of the commonly made comments heard when a really popular book is made into a movie. Railroad Tycoon II and III set a high standard for a deep simulation strategy game that takes tens and hundreds of hours to master. Most of the "grand masters" of RRIII most likely started with the original Railroad Tycoon and progressed through the different versions on their path to proficiency in RRT3. With the newer Railroads game, I can see a new generation of younger gamers getting hooked on Railroads simplier game play and graphics. Then when Railroads II comes out, I suspect it will attempt to bring this newest series of Railroad simulation to the level where Railroad Tycoon III left off.

For the time being, I can see a Sid Meier Railroad simulation fan playing both versions depending upon how much time they had for a game and how deep they wanted to get. So far we have not played RR II since getting the newer Railroads. ;)

I am a real fan of Sid Meier's games and I am a real fan of railroad games, but I expected more from the gameplay of Sid Meier's Railroads. My opinion is that it is not better than Railroads Tycoon 3.

I thought that this would be like MicroSoft's train simulator but nothing is further from the truth. You have to build this railroad which to me takes the fun away from any kid that simply wants to run a train down the tracks.

The graphics are awesome and it can be a challenge configuring a lot of trains to do the task at hand. Once you hone your task management skills the game gets really easy.

All ways been interested in Trains so is my 5 year old son. Thought it might befun to share my fasination with trains withhim. the game is great. we love it can build rails where ever to cities and buy different trains its a great time..

I gave it a average, because it crashes way to much on Vista. Like every 5 minutes. Other games I have have no problems on Vista...not sure why this one is giving me problems.

graphics much better than the original, can be as complicated as you like for figuring loads. also a great tutorial and the game is easy to learn

Love model trains. This is as close as I can get to a train layout in my home w/o actually building one. Excellent game if you are a railroad fan.

Railroads! is a great game that brings a good feeling from a simulation\strategy game and really brings back memories of playing the old simcity games. Although it is based on scheduling trains with cargo, mail or people from city to city the graphics and gameplay are very fun and simular to the easy gameplay of simcity games. It is a great addition to Sid Meiers library of games. The only problem with the game is now that I have vista the game crashes alot!

For any railroad simulation lover, this is a must have game. The graphics are great and play is superb. Even the computer players bring a different dynamic to the game.

I bought a new computer in Dec. and the game would not work with the new computer because the new computer was to advanced, so i had to get numerous downloads from the software creator. But since the game has had the upgrades it has worked fine. Overall, it is a fun game with hours of entertainment, good graphics, but not very challenging even for younger ages. Once you start play and understand how to play, very easy to beat the computer on the hardest level.
