Old Formula Made All The More Compelling For Consoles

I'm a Civilization veteran. Ever since Sid Meier's original game I have loved this strategic, involving, rewarding game premise and have played every version bar Civ 4 on the PC.
I played the demo for the Xbox 360 and was less than impressed - Sims-like world leaders who spoke gobbledygook, cartoony graphics...but this is a game that can never be judged by a twenty minute demo.
The mechanics of the game may be stripped down from the PC versions, but the gameplay is very tight and quick; smaller maps, quicker progression of scientific development make for speedier gameplay, but the consequences of your actions are that much more pronounced. You might not be able to tune your civilization's budget to 2 decimal places but you can still control everything to some degree.
The game is compelling, involving and, dare I say it, addictive. If you like strategy games, buy it. If you liked older Civs, get it - you'll be surprised at how it still has everything you love to offer.
The only thing that lets it down in my view is the music - in-game it's fine, but the main screen classical strings theme is grating and sounds like an old midi file!
Overall, I'd give it a 9 out of 10.
