great game for people who like Simulation based games

In Civilization, players strive to become ruler of the world by establishing and leading a civilization from the dawn of man into the space age - waging war, conducting diplomacy, discovering technologies, going head-to-head with some of history’s greatest leaders, and building the most powerful empire the world has ever known. If you like these types of games with a Category: Simulation type game mode then this game would be a good one to buy. I had no problkems with this product and i highly recommend it.

I bought this game after playing the demo provided on Xbox live. The game is very addictive, but lacks certain levels of game play I look for in the civilization games. After working and developing your society for about an hour I was really hoping for a little more future technology research opening more technologies and therefore vehicles, weapons, soldiers, and spacecraft. This game depends on you quickly advancing your society and immediately taking over as many cultures as you can... This is good and bad, I like being able to develop far in the future and not have the guide pop up after two hours of gameplay and tell me the game will end in five turns, what a bummer. Overall, this seems like a rental game for most, if you are a fan of the Sid Meier's Civilization series will enjoy, but beware this game can get monotonous.

Old Formula Made All The More Compelling For Consoles
Review created: 12/17/08

I'm a Civilization veteran. Ever since Sid Meier's original game I have loved this strategic, involving, rewarding game premise and have played every version bar Civ 4 on the PC.
I played the demo for the Xbox 360 and was less than impressed - Sims-like world leaders who spoke gobbledygook, cartoony graphics...but this is a game that can never be judged by a twenty minute demo.
The mechanics of the game may be stripped down from the PC versions, but the gameplay is very tight and quick; smaller maps, quicker progression of scientific development make for speedier gameplay, but the consequences of your actions are that much more pronounced. You might not be able to tune your civilization's budget to 2 decimal places but you can still control everything to some degree.

The game is compelling, involving and, dare I say it, addictive. If you like strategy games, buy it. If you liked older Civs, get it - you'll be surprised at how it still has everything you love to offer.

The only thing that lets it down in my view is the music - in-game it's fine, but the main screen classical strings theme is grating and sounds like an old midi file!

Overall, I'd give it a 9 out of 10.

Best strategy game for the 360.
Review created: 09/17/08

I personally love this game, its worth hours and hours of gameplay, feeds the inner history nerd in me, has very good strategy based play and has fun online. However its not for everyone if you are looking for a fast paced action game its not for you.

The Good

The ONLY strategy game for the 360 you dont have to be a pro to play.

Many historical weapons and buildings.

Several characters to choose from.

Fun online play.

Very user friendly and runs very smoothly.

Very addictive, you'll lose sleep. (should this be in the bad?)

The Bad

Graphics could use an upgrade.

Occasionally freezes online which gets very frustrating after hours of gameplay.

Civ players on the PC may be dissapointed as it has less features in order to run more smoothly. I personally liked it better but some may not.

Overall this is a good buy if you are the casual strategy game player, there really arnt many to choose from so the verdict is: BUY IT

i bought this game for my husband who is a serious gamer whose tastes range into the complicated and strategy-based. this game is not something you'll be finishing within the week. this game is one that you play and play and PLAY with one goal in mind. to become absolute ruler of the entire world. and just like it would be in reality, you have to work hard, take care of your people, and develop relationships with other rulers. but in the end there can be only one. my husband has enjoyed it immensely so far.
just remember these things about the game: long, tedious, worth it.

A perfect Sid Meier Game, The changes in the game turn on more agile the multiplayer game. The only problem is that you can't upgrade your army paying for this. (the only upgrade alloyed is when the "Da Vince Workshop" is built.

Civilization Revolution for XBOX 360 -- great game!

If you are a fan of the Civ series, this is a great adaptation of the game to the console. While this game does not go into the minute detail of running a civ like its PC brethren, it does a great job of translating the thrill of civ building, military domination and global expansion that fans appreciate.

Great graphics, good controller options and fun, in-game additions like the dueling advisors, are all plusses for this version. Downsides include the lack of Civilopedia and Wonder narrations as well as less music than the PC version.

This game also plays faster and one can complete games in a couple of hours as opposed to all-day sessions on the PC.

If you are a fan of the series, this will be a good addition to your collection. If you haven't played it before, this is a great introduction to the series as it is much easier to learn and takes less time to play and be successful.

I like the game a lot but I like the Civ series. If you like RTS's this will be a good game. It may not be a keeper that you can't get rid of but it is a great game.

 Civilization Revoluition xbox 360 review
Review created: 11/17/09

In short, Sid has taken what was a terrific and unique game, full of depth and hours of gameplay. And has turned it into exactly what my rating has become. AVERAGE. The maps are small, the gameplay is rather easy and the depth is not there. There is a rather uninteresting tech tree you follow, no more clever videos of your technological achievements, and the sim like characters are annoying. Battles are boring, and the units the game offer are just tired.Rarely do you need to get very far in the tech tree as the enemy is always just weak, online gameplay is hard to find. And more often than not you get some panzer tanks and roll the pikemen or rock throwing enemy as they simply cannot keep the pace. The diplomacy is boring and the strategy is just nonexistant. Good buy for a non gamer or a casual gamer who hasn't the taste for a true strategy. If you liked the past civ games, save the cash and wait for a new one.

 It's a Time Sink
Review created: 10/29/09

It's a lot of fun, especially for someone who hasn't played any Civ games since the first couple. The minutiae have been removed for the console market and it really streamlines the game. You can lose track of time and play all night, which can be a really good thing.

 great game

I know this game is typically a kid game, but I'm 26 and love playing this game. I started with the PC version over 10 years ago and got hooked. This one is similar to the PC version although it seems more simplified. One new thing that I don't remember on the PC is that when you get 3 or more of the same unit together you can 'form an army' making them stronger than they are as individual units. Most versions of the Xbox game take an hour or 2 to complete.

 Online Multiplayer Unplayable
Review created: 09/02/09
by:

This game's developers have allowed this game to languish without any new updates in the last 6 months - and the game desperately needs them. The current online situation allows for multiple, widely-known exploits and abuses. In addition to the uncontrolled cheating, the game is virtually unplayable; 1-in-2 or 1-in-3 online games freeze or crash.

The game is in desperate need of some attention.

 Civilization Revolution Xbox360 review

Likes: Each race has an advantage and special unit. Choose which tech path you want to follow. Building an empire.
Dislikes: Very slow multiplayer games on xbox live. Very annoying music. Single player computer not very smart.

Fun game to play every now and then when you are taking a break from the other ones. You can easily kill a few hours playing and not realize it.

 Addicting!!!!
Review created: 08/01/09

Man.. this is a great game. You can play different scenarios.. be different leaders, use different technology.. it has it all. At first it looked abit confusing, that was over quick.. great tutorials to get you started. You can run through a complete game in about 3 hours (or less) and play another right away with a completely different result. This game has GREAT Replay value! Make Armies, Planes, Tanks... even Catapults! You start off "simple" and evolve into Tech!

 Civilization Revolution: Fun and addicting
Review created: 08/01/09
by:

This game is truly fantastic if you're looking for something different than typical video games. Revolution is a turn based strategy game (I know this turns some people off at first) in which you guide one of the available civilizations to victory over others through four different ways. Where this game really shines is it's replay value. You're sure to beat it one way as one civ on one difficulty setting your first time through (it takes about 5-6 hours depending on how good you are and how easy the enemies are) however you're defiantly going to some back and try to beat it all the way through the top difficulty level, which is no easy feat. There are also different scenarios that you can play through that amount to pretty much be the main way of beating the game. It does have Xbox Live capacity, but I can't see sitting down to play a full game on Xbox Live. There is unfortunately no way to play with others without more than one disk and Xbox.
