Dislike of the turn base but probably necessary due to ps3 controller vs keyboard and mouse.
Alot of fun building and conquering. Just takes alot of time, easy 4-9 hrs for one game.

  Civilization is Addicting!
Review created: 11/18/08

Pros
+This game has so much going for it. The length of gameplay depends on your difficulty setting. Chieftain (2-3 hours), Warlord (2-4 hours), and King (4-6 hours) are all the settings I have played. Of course, of the four methods to win the game (Economic, Cultural, Technology, or Domination), I prefer Domination, which requires the most time. It feels so good to destroy the enemies cities one by one, or to launch an ICBM and destroy their main military production city.
+This game is all about multitasking Science, Culture, Construction, Food, and Military Conquest.
+The cartoony graphics and cool sound effects rock. Your advisors and the barbarians are so funny. They say all these nonsense words so enthusiastically! They offer no help (unless you read the subtitles), but are fun to watch.
+Your opponents are fatally optimistic. You can decimate them down to their last city, yet they will still threaten you with taunts like, "The days of your civilization are numbered," and "You are no match for the might of our armies." It's hilarious.

Cons
-King difficulty setting is described as "Fair, but challenging." It is NOT! It is totally biased toward the Computer Controlled Player. For example, if you have 18 attack and the computer has 18 defense, 9 times out of 10, you will lose. It's makes me so mad. Or if you have 20 defense and the computer has 18 attack, you will lose. If you have equal or slightly higher attack to the computer's defense, you will always lose. It should be 50-50, but it's more like 10-90 in the computer's favor. Pure BS. I have attacked with units four times more powerful than the computer's, and my units still take serious damage. I have not played as Emperor or Diety because the skewed advantage is probably even worse there.
-With multiple military units, the computer does not let you select adjacent units by region, but rather by order of creation. When you have 25 armies on the map, it can be very aggravating to locate the one you wish to activate because you have to skip around 20 times to find the one unit. I had to learn to use the L3 stick (magnifying glass) to search for units instead.
-The game will sometimes jump away from the city you're working in because it assumes you're done after one action. I really hate that. Sometimes it jumps to the oppposite side of the map. It wastes a lot of time.
-This would be a great family game if it weren't for the over-pronounced female figures. Catherine, Cleopatra... I'll leave it at that.

  Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution PS3

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution for the PS3 isn't a must have for PS3 owners. It is a bit hard to get into if you're not a strategy game buff. The purpose of the game is to win in one of four ways: Domination, technology, economic, or cultural. Only one of these can be achieved per time you play and it is up to you which one you want to pursue. This is defintely not a long game (maybe 4 or 5 hours at the most PER PLAY and thats only if you extend the play) and you can even beat it in about 1 hour if you do it correctly. I personally enjoy long games so as to get my money's worth. I do have to say that you can replay this game many times and it does seem different every time if you choose to go after a different victory each time. There is a difficulty setting which you can choose from and the game actually is really really difficult at higher levels. Another good thing is the number of civilizations you can choose from (around 20) and all of them have their strengths. Also if you're a history buff there is a huge amount of historical figures that appear in the game. You can choose a civilization run by Ghandi or even Mao Zedong. There are a large number of things to do in Civilization Revolution it is just that you are only able to play and achieve one specific victory per play before you have to start an entirely new game. I emphasize PER PLAY because you can spend 4 or 5 hours building your city and fighting your opponent and then it's over and then you start another game altogether from scratch. Online features are available and this is where the game gets really fun. You can face other people online and build your own city and compete against them. This to me is much more fair than the standard computer kicks your butt mode where the higher the difficulty the more advantage the computer has. I would only recommend this game to strategy game players and not so much as to a general audience. I would tell you to rent it before you buy it because it can be fun at first but then later when you want a challenge you say to yourself "why did I buy this game?"

  Classic Civ!

Love this game. It's classic Civilization with a few extra bonuses and just fantastic graphics.

It's not as in depth or technical as Civ IV on PC but that actually makes it a little bit more enjoyable (maybe not for all, but for me at least). You don't have to control individual workers and what they do. I love it.

This game is great. Very similar to the Ages of Empires series and sorta like the sim city games. I enjoy those games very much so I like this a lot. If you don't like civ games then you most likely won't like this one. There are many different societies you can pick from and many different ways to play & win the game. I give it Excellent because with the limited options with this type of game they do a great job of making it easy to play over and over.

  Great Simplified Version of Civilization!
Review created: 11/13/08

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Overall I think this is a great and addicting game. I've played one other version of Civilization on PC (Civ. III). This game is a fair amount easier to get into and play through. As far as I'm concerned, it is better then the PC version that I played (Civ. III)just because it is easier to get yourself into without being overwhelmed by too many little details. It plays through a lot faster, and the animation during the play is excellent for a strategy game. I Love it!

The game itself is a lot easier than any previous versions of Civilizations. They have made the game faster. The graphics are good, not great. Over all, this game is worth buying but don't expect to be playing it for hours and hours like CivsIV.

I haven't had much of a chance to play the new Civilization for PS3 yet but from the little bit I have played it seems pretty good. It is actually quite a bit different from the computer version but still seems to keep the integrity of the game.

Civilization Revolution (PS3) is right on track
Review created: 09/09/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have followed the Civilization series since "Civilization: Call to Power". The Sid Meier Civilization PC games are considered by many to be the greatest strategy games ever on a PC. The newest addition to the Civilization series is Civilization Revolution on the PS3. It is the first Civ game on a console platform, and it is great.

Civ Rev is a very good Civilization game. The older PC games had the player pay much attention to details and micro-managing. Civ Rev leaves the micro-managing out. Civ Rev is more about fast play and fighting. But it is a good trade off. On a console game players would like to complete a game in a matter of hours and in Civ Rev a typical game might last 2-3 hours. In the PC games you were lucky if you could finish a game in 6-7 hours, many games could take much longer.

Civ Rev is a great addition to the Civilization series.
