This game is fun! Nothing feels better than rolling up on some horsemen with a tank! There are many civilizations to choose from: Russians, Chinese, Americans, Japanese, French, Indians, Arabs, Aztecs, Zulu, Mongols, English, Romans, Egyptians, Greeks, Spanish, and Germans. Each one has their own benefits they bring to the table. Choose from a list of scenarios or jump right into a random map. Learn quick with the tutorials provided or teach yourself. Gameplay consists of constructing buildings, forming armies, researching new technologies, and using diplomacy. This game offers many, many hours of fun filled gameplay. If you love strategy games and own a DS, add this game to your collection!

I bought this game, scared of what it was going to be like, going from PC to the DS. First time I played it, I played till 4 am and didnt realize it. Very addictive once you figure it out. I like the onine play and how different boards are free each week on Nintendo WFC. This game is great to take with you and not be tied down to a PC to play Sid Meier's Civilization.

My husband and son are addicted to Civilization!
Review created: 07/24/08

My 10 year old son and husband play several PC versions of Sid Meier's Civilization games. They have helped my son develop an interest in history and geography. I got him Civilization Revolution for his Nintendo DS. After playing for an hour or so, he assured me, "Mom this game is AWESOME!" Now I fear that he and my husband will be squabbling over who gets to play with the Nintendo DS on our family camping trips!

  Excellent Adaptation

Civilization is the gold standard franchise of turn-based strategy games. If you've ever taken over the world on your computer, you did it either in a Civ game or a knock off. Civilization Revolutions is a Nintendo-ized version for consoles. There are more cute characters and animation, but the core game is still there. The Nintendo DS version is scaled down from there, but it retains all of the fun of the Civ games in general.

If you are not familiar with Civ style games, here is a brief description. You build villages and each turn you give your villages commands. You can build units or buildings. The units are mostly military, but also include trade or settlers. The buildings help your village grow through various resources. You fight with other civilizations for space and resources and try to become the dominant civilization through economic, science, cultural or military might.

There are few scenarios. None of them are particularly noteworthy, but all of them are worth playing. You are set up with certain world circumstances and try to win.

While playing, the cartoonization is minimized in the move to DS, due to limitations of the system. It sort of looks and feels like Civ II for the PC. There's a nice variety to make the game last a long time. Different civs have different advantages (I like the Russians and the Egyptians). The random map generator creates new and interesting maps.

There's no encyclopedia feature on the DS. This makes it hard to make choices when building things. You're never really clear on the full information. Sometimes, I end up researching something or building something that negates the effects of one of my own wonders. I didn't know this would happen until after the fact. While this probably impossible to fit on a DS cartridge, it is missed.

The game moves a little slowly at first, then a little too quickly after that. You don't notice this pacing at first, but when you play 7 or 8 games over 2 days, as I have, you start to feel it.

If you're a true Civ fan, you should be playing this on a PC. If you're looking for a fun version to play on the go, this is an excellent way to scratch that itch.

  A handheld strategy game
Review created: 01/09/09

Its a very good HAND HELD strategy game. A lot of reviews seem to down this game because they match it to the original PC/Game-console version. There are game complexities that were taken out to fit onto this version but its still a fun game. There is nothing like trying rule the world with your stylus!

Not as good as the computer game, but that was expected
Review created: 01/07/09

I'm a big fan of the computer game, which is what motivated me to get it for the DS and play on the road. However, the game loses a large degree of complexity and instead each turn takes about two seconds.

That said, that's about what I expected because it is a much smaller gaming system. THAT said, it isn't nearly as fun to play. I think it was ambitious to try and squish such a complex game into too small a platform.

Simple little game. Easy to play. Not as detailed as the PC version but still not bad. Fun when you have a little time to kill.

I purchased this game as a Christmas gift for my boy, he seems to like adventure games more then the rest. Thats a good thing considering most games out there are too violent, as in ripping heads, arms and legs off or foul language. It's not adult language, its just foul for any age . this game is good for kids and adults alike games don't have to be vulgar to be good

Get a PS3 absolutely free! This is 100% legitimate

I’m sure you've seen various 'free' gift scams on the Internet, but the following offers are NOT scams in any way, shape or form. This method has been covered by respectable sources such as CNN, MSNBC, Fox, Wired and G4.
The reason these companies make money, is because most people don't bother getting all the referrals. All you have to do is post it on eBay. They use us as advertisement by word of mouth which saves them tons of money that goes toward yours and my free gift.

There are many well known legitimate offers to choose from such as Blockbuster online, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not use them to get a free PS3 or cash. Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you. After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer a few people (depending on the FREE prize you choose) to do the same under your link.
Step 1: Click this link
http://www.YourPS34free.com/index.php?ref=4991526
Step 2: Sign up and chose an account type (Referral is the easiest and best).
Step 3: Complete just 1 free trial offer (like Stamps.com, You will start a trial and can cancel it right after with no charge at all.)
Step 4: Refer to people to do the same. Just do what I’m doing and use eBay.
Step 5: Receive your PS3 for FREE!

For proof that this is for real, click on the link below. It's the
company that is behind everything.

Not as good as the other versions
Review created: 08/04/08

This is a great adaptation of Civilization Revolution. Gameplay is very similar to the Xbox 360 version, but since it is a portable version on the DS, the graphics are nowhere near as good, and some icons are hard to figure out without the booklet (I've looked at what each icon stands for 2-3 times before I remembered what each icon was, because some are pretty poorly depicted).

I haven't tried this one multiplayer, so I'm not sure how it is, but I took it with me to a doctor's and dentist's appointment, and time passed fairly quickly.

The maps are a bit hard to see, and the touch screen controls don't feel as good (or as convenient) as using the buttons, and the in-game encyclopedia is missing as well.

It's really more like a 3.5 rating to me, but since I gave the Xbox 360 version a 4 (should probably be a 4.5 for that one as well), I have to give this one something lower, because it doesn't feel quite as good as the Xbox 360 version. However, this one is only half the price, and portable to boot, so it is very much worth the money.
