So funny...and a what not to do!!

This is the third book in Kinsella's Shopaholic series...the first Being Confessions of a Shopaholic, and the second: Shopaholic takes Manhattan. I would highly recommend reading these as the series as it would make much more sense!
This is yet another funny, entertaining, cannot put down book by Kinsella! Our main character once again finds she simply cannot stop spending...an old habit which always leads to trouble!! This habit becomes worse when the wedding registry kicks in and she finds all sorts of things she simply must have!
This time she also has the little matter of not being able to say 'no' or fully tell the truth...at least where her wedding is concerned and finds herself with not one but two weddings scheduled for the SAME day in DIFFERENT countries! Only our main Character Becky could create such turmoil....but in her 'pain' we find our humor!
A great lighthearted read that will keep you turning the pages!!

Exasperating, Fun, Predictable Bridget Jonesesque Story
Review created: 03/31/09
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Sophie Kinsella's sequel novel, "Shopaholic Ties the Knot," is yet another story about an exasperating and fun character who has a shopping obsession. The novel is a stark reminder that if a pop culture formula works once- Helen Fielding's triumph on both sides of the Atlantic with "Bridget Jones's Diary,"- the knock-offs will keep coming until nary a book, movie, or TV show can be sold.

Becky has moved to New York and, much to the surprise of some readers, is a personal shopper at Barneys! She and rich boyfriend, Luke, now live in a modest apartment on the West Side. When he proposes marriage, she couldn't be more thrilled- until the inevitable conflict begins: marry in England or America. Becky's mother wants her to get married back in Oxshott, while Luke's overbearing mother wants an all-out, no expenses spared, wedding at the Plaza Hotel. In typical Becky fashion, she allows two weddings to be simultaneously planned on the two continents.

"Shopaholic Ties the Knot" is a lightning fast read, and, if you are a fan, you'll certainly want tot pick up "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan," its two prequels. This novel differs from the previous installments because it further develops Becky's character and her relationships with her mother, Luke, and Luke's frosty mother with slightly fewer shopping binges. All three are light-hearted fare, very easy to read, and, for the fan of such hijinks, very difficult to put down.

If you're looking for a deep discussing about consumerism in society, this book is not for you. However, if you're looking to be entertained for a few hours while you devour this book, you've come to the right place! Sophie Kinsella will have you laughing out loud at/with the main character, Rebecca, who finds herself in quite a predicament, having two weddings scheduled on the same day (her own)! Great!

  They keep getting better...

Becky gets engaged to Luke and watching her watch her wedding get planned is hilarious. As usual, she gets herself into one impossible siutation after another and as usual, she is ingenious, or just very lucky, in getting out of each harrowing situation.
She is still busy as ever writing letters and one letter she received back had me laughing out loud.
I have said this before - don't start with this book in the series. Go back and read the first two before this one. You will enjoy it all the more.

First: You have to have read this author's previous Shopaholic book or you won't understand the true nature of the primary characters. Ms. Kinsella also has a knack for bringing all of the characters into the various stages of the story like a magician spinning nine or ten plates on their individual sticks. About half-way through the book you are sure the magic will disappear into the mist so you read faster and faster (like a real New Yorker) to keep up with the story that goes at warp speed. Every situation is described by verbal and sensory coloration ranging from the basic rainbow to firecracker sparkles.
The strong fiber binding this story is love. That concept is presented from every possible direction and it works so well you don't realize how strong the thread is until you finish the book with a smile on your face.

I have read every book in the series. I personally worked on Madison Ave in NYC and can relate to the main character. It has a twist to it because of her location...but all together love the book, author and the series. Thank you

I loved it. Bridezilla meets Sleeping Beauty? I can't give away the story, but it kept me on my toes trying to figure out exactly HOW Rebecca was going to resolve having TWO weddings on the same day, half a world apart....

Very entertaining, I really liked it.

Sophie Kinsella is an amazing author and I am a big fan of her books. I would recommend with starting with confessions with a shopaholic first and if you love that one then you'll love this one too :)

  Love this series!
Review created: 06/10/09

Finally books and a character that I can relate to! I admit that sometimes the scenerios she gets herself into a bit over the top, but I can still feel the emotion and relate to this character.
I have read the first 2 books in the series and now am finished with this one. I am planning to finish the whole series.

  Ties several knots
Review created: 05/07/09

This is the case of a bride who has too many options when it comes to planning her wedding. Again, Kinsella makes it fun to read, but over-the-top fake to believe. Also her English speaking applies to all the NYers, which is a bit of a bother. She should have hired an American to coach her the American way of saying things. In the end, the character magically solves all the problems and emerges a triumphant. Too neatly tied, I must say.

  Shopaholic Ties the Knot
Review created: 11/01/08

I decided to buy this book because I have read all the other ones in the series and somehow skipped this one. I love the characters and being a self proclaimed shopaholic myself, I can relate to this character in many ways. It makes me laugh until I just about pee in my pants, and it keeps my attention without wanting to skip ahead pages. The writer is my all time favorite, and I have read all her books, (including ones out of the shopaholic series,) and have never been disappointed. This book I would recommend to anyone who loves to shop and knows the true holiness of a Prada sample sale.

Wedding Bells, Trouble, Shopping and Becky :)
Review created: 05/05/07

Okay don't panic! Can you hear Becky telling you that again. I can and you know trouble is brewing. So it is time for Becky to get ready for her wedding. Think there will a easy ride to the aisle. Think again, this is Becky. The trip starts in NYC and where it ends... you will have to read.

All I can say is that it takes you through the best and funniest wedding saga in a while. You name it... it happens to Becky. Only the best right? Maybe Becky can surprise us this time.

I really cannot tell you much without giving it away. But you are about to see a multitasking Becky Like you have never seen her before. You will be cheering for her to win.

I cannot say enough about this amazing author and series. I am in love. I had not been reading for years. Now thanks to Sophie I am a book worm. A book takes just a week.

I suggest the tapes for the first read. That way you get the cute british voice in your head for when you read later. You need to read these in order.

I cannot believe how easy she is to read. It is better than Grey's Anatomy.

Read this one after all the books before it. Otherwise you will be sad when you realize it goes in order. Each book leaves off from the one before.

Don't forget to vote for me. Anytime you want to chat about this author, I am always ready :)

  Funny and Enjoyable Book
Review created: 03/08/07

This is the 3rd book in the Shopaholic series and it does not disappoint! After I read Confessions of a Shopaholic, I ordered the rest of the books right away. The main character, Becky, is a lot of fun and I love the way she thinks. Her future mother-in-law is quite a character and adds plenty of drama to this story. I found myself laughing out loud. I'd recommend this series to anyone looking for something light and fun to read and likes fashion.
