Shopaholic Ties the Knot

The irresistible heroine of Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhattan is back!--in a hilarious tale of mothers and daughters, mothers and sons, and one blushing bride who just can’t say no to saying “I do.”

Life has been good for Becky Bloomwood: She’s become the best personal shopper at Barneys, she and her successful entrepreneurial boyfriend, Luke, are living happily in Manhattan’s West Village, and her new next door neighbor is a fashion designer! But with her best friend, Suze, engaged, how can Becky fail to notice that her own ring finger is bare? Not that she’s been thinking of marriage (or diamonds) or anything...

Then Luke proposes! Bridal registries dance in Becky’s head. Problem is, two other people are planning her wedding: Becky’s overjoyed mother has been waiting forever to host a backyard wedding, with the bride resplendent in Mum’s frilly old gown. While Luke’s high-society mother is insisting on a glamorous, all-expenses-paid affair at the Plaza. Both weddings for the same day. And Becky can’t seem to turn down either one. Can everyone’s favorite shopaholic tie the knot before everything unravels?

So funny...and a what not to do!!

This is the third book in Kinsella's Shopaholic series...the first Being Confessions of a Shopaholic, and the second: Shopaholic takes Manhattan. I would highly recommend reading these as the series as it would make much more sense!
This is yet another funny, entertaining, cannot put down book by Kinsella! Our main character once again finds she simply cannot stop spending...an old habit which always leads to trouble!! This habit becomes worse when the wedding registry kicks in and she finds all sorts of things she simply must have!
This time she also has the little matter of not being able to say 'no' or fully tell the truth...at least where her wedding is concerned and finds herself with not one but two weddings scheduled for the SAME day in DIFFERENT countries! Only our main Character Becky could create such turmoil....but in her 'pain' we find our humor!
A great lighthearted read that will keep you turning the pages!!

Exasperating, Fun, Predictable Bridget Jonesesque Story
    Review created: 03/31/09
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Sophie Kinsella's sequel novel, "Shopaholic Ties the Knot," is yet another story about an exasperating and fun character who has a shopping obsession. The novel is a stark reminder that if a pop culture formula works once- Helen Fielding's triumph on both sides of the Atlantic with "Bridget Jones's Diary,"- the knock-offs will keep coming until nary a book, movie, or TV show can be sold.

Becky has moved to New York and, much to the surprise of some readers, is a personal shopper at Barneys! She and rich boyfriend, Luke, now live in a modest apartment on the West Side. When he proposes marriage, she couldn't be more thrilled- until the inevitable conflict begins: marry in England or America. Becky's mother wants her to get married back in Oxshott, while Luke's overbearing mother wants an all-out, no expenses spared, wedding at the Plaza Hotel. In typical Becky fashion, she allows two weddings to be simultaneously planned on the two continents.

"Shopaholic Ties the Knot" is a lightning fast read, and, if you are a fan, you'll certainly want tot pick up "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan," its two prequels. This novel differs from the previous installments because it further develops Becky's character and her relationships with her mother, Luke, and Luke's frosty mother with slightly fewer shopping binges. All three are light-hearted fare, very easy to read, and, for the fan of such hijinks, very difficult to put down.
