I found this to be a very good description of modern-day sniping and counter-sniping. The soldier is a hero for all soldiers to look up to with his positive attitude and his ability to complete missions. A hero for all of us civilians to thank for their sacrifice in times of war.
The book was very well written. Excellent depictions of war-time contact with enemy troops. I have only read it once but it's right back on my "too do" list of re-reading.

My brother, cousin and uncle are all Marines and loved this book. Great insight into the inside operations of war and the live of the author.

I First heard about this book when I saw Casey Kuhlman appear on FOX NEWS promoting it. This book is an excellent way for anyone to see what the troops are really going through in Iraq. It tells the story of a Marine sniper and how they prepare for war and how they do their job during war. It also touches base on how the sniper deals emotionally with taking the life of another person. Excellent book

  The right stuff

Coughlin definitely has an attitude but he's a highly-rated Marine sniper so it's just part of the package. Apply an ego-filter to the story and what comes through is a compelling account of men deep in war.

Shooter by Jack Coughlin (the Shooter)

One thing's for sure ... the author has an ego. I guess I don't understand how a Gunnery Sergeant can be smarter than the rest of the Marine Corps. The book is written in a continuous series of Rambo/Stallone cliches reminiscent of "You're da disease ... I'm da cure."

Mildly entertaining, but a lot of dead spots (no pun intended).
