This game is one of the best ever made for PC. It combines elements of many real time strategy and civilization style games. I first played Shogun a long time ago, and was very pleased to see that there is a way to obtain classic software at a great price. I recommend this game to anyone that likes wargames, and especially to anyone with interest in fuedal Japan. Great subject matter, great game, great buy!

What I like is that they include the original shogun total war and the mongol invasion expansion. The best part is you can create your own battles, and what I dislike about it is most of these don't come with a box nowadays =( I decided to buy it, because I wanted to try out the expansion, and this game may someday be discontinued...

The game is great for strategy lovers. Armbender 777 did a great job of getting the item to me in great time. The game arrived with no problems and so far I havent had any problems out of the game itself. Great Job

My favorite allitime game but buggy
Review created: 10/20/09

I enjoyed the TV mini-series Shogun. This game let me in a way play the quest for the total domination of feudal Japan. The game is not overly complex. You can turn off game options like Morale and Fatique bu that is what makes it more interesting to play as you get to be an expert player. When an enemy Geisha assassin enters the game you had better move you heirs and Diamyo away from ports. Because your enemy will come quickly that way. Send your army after the enemy leader and kill him and if he has no heirs the Geisha will disappear. Better yet send a shinobi spy to an enemy port looking for the Geisha house. If you find one send an army by sea as the shinobi spy allows you to move from your port to his. Capture or destroy the Geisha house. Great game when it doesn't bug out on you. SAVE OFTEN. Sometimes Autosave will help you if you forget. But Autosave is few times done.
Anyways the game usually works in XP and very very seldom in Vista. I got lucky with m ACER Aspire 4530 as the games works pretty well in Vista with only one or two crashes per game. This game last for hours so save often. I'd have given an Excellent rating IF THE GAME WAS NOT BUGGY. Its a classic war and strategy game. It's the one game I turn to every so often and play again.

I had this game before and always liked. I do wish there was a way to pause the game during battle. In all I really enjoy playing this simple game

Great game! Can be frustrating at times
Review created: 04/26/07

This is an excellent risk like strategy game. Set in 16th century japan, you take control of one of 6 great clans attempting to become the Shogun or lord of Japan. You must build up armies, make alliances, declare wars, and protect your daimyo. Your Daimyo represents you, he is the leader of the clan so if he dies and has no heirs you are finished. This is an excellent game, but it can be a little frustrating. Like one time, I was SO close to winning, just a few rebels to crush with more then 3/4 of the map mine, when suddenly, My daimyo died of illness... All my heirs had been assasinated earlier in the game and... I lost.... JUST ANOTHER 3 TURNS AND I WOULD HAVE WON!!! But thats war for ya... What I love about this game is the choices to make. "Should I stay allied with the Oda or the Takeda?" "Should I attack that rebel or try to bribe him?" "Should I accept guns from the Portugese and turn christian or wait for the Dutch?" The choices are limitless and one bad decision could send your conquest right down the toilet so you must think carefully. If you dont feel like going on a complete campaign, you can learn a few things in the tutorials, fight a custom battle, or embark on a Historical Campaign which is a quick series of battles meant to show the lifes work of one of japans great warlords, or an alternate reality with the Mongol invasion. If you dont feel like trying to unite japan, why not attempt to conquer it? The Mongol invasion campaign is what may have happened if the mongol fleet were able to successfully land on Japan, rather then get stopped by a freak storm. Play as the Mongols and try to take Japan for the great Kahn, or play as the Hojo clan and attempt to force them out. With 4 different starting locations for each clan, rather then just the 1 set in the original version, there are many different ways to start your conquest. Plus, new units, such as the legendary Kensai or sword saint, I trained one of those with Legendary armor and weapons and he managed to hold his own against 180 enemies! And new strategies. If you feel a seige is lasting to long, you can attempt to infiltrate with a ninja and open the gates from the inside. If you dont feel like you could take that level 4, 1000 men rebel army, you can bribe them and bring them to your side. My strategy uses controversial means... By which I mean bribery and assasination and it works pretty well... Unless I run out of money or my best ninja is killed. I would suggest this game to anyone who likes strategy games.
