I was disappointed in that the printing was so light against the paper. Made
it hard to read for me. Therefore; I can only read small portions ar a time.
A darker ink would certainly be preferable. However, the book is not disappointing.

This is some book - The Shock Doctrine - it shocked me!

This is some book - The Shock Doctrine - it shocked me! I have to say, this is one of the best, most riveting books I have ever read. We really just don't know all that's really going on behind the scenes as events/current affairs are unfolding in real time. It's not until afterwards that things become clear - and as this book points out only to clearly, by then, it is too late. I can't recommend it highly enough but I don't want to say too much about the 'story' (for want of a better word) itself as it would give too much away. I must go and read this lady's other book 'No Logo' and see if she has a web site. I found it very cheaply on Ebay. I would have gladly paid five times that amount if I had known in advance what a read it is. Milton Friedman and his cronies have got a lot to answer for.

All i have to say is: "it is worth your time to read it." Best author of the year!!

Klein offers a honest appraisal of 30 years of error
Review created: 01/28/09

Just preaching to the choir now.

I have family manipulated by fear, lies and being Dittoheads. I have a best friend who believes "the rich deserve all their money" and thinks my views only see the bad side of American history. My girlfriend in LA has become a Marxist (after two trips to Hugo Chavez land) and claims that we need a revolution NOW.

She and my daughter are the ones eager to borrow this book. In light of the collapse of Friedman's World and Republicans stuck in their libertarian wet dreams (plutocracy=democracy, Saint Ronnie is always right and forget-about-the-W-behind the Bush Recession) her kismet, her logic in portraying Truth is truly refreshing.

But that's my perspective. Those on the right, after all, are mostly sheeple. By the way, I like Anna Korin and not Coulter

Thinking cap reading!!!!

  A world in shock
Review created: 12/08/08

I am amazed at discovering this book. She makes Noam Chomsky seem like an amateur. Absolutely brilliant. Not only is she a good writer that knows how to hold your interest, she is talking about the reality of what's going on in the world with full documentation. She doesn't miss a beat at all.

  Shock Doctrine is Shocking
Review created: 11/08/08

This is a 600 page book about the disaster of Capitalism. It's very informative but deeply disturbing. From Chili in 1973 to the events of the 21st century this book covers it all. At times I had to put it down and read something else. It was that frightening.
I recommend that anyone who is interested in what our country is doing and esp. what it's doing with 'big business' read this book.

Bought Naomi Klein's book a few weeks ago...amazing insight to the economics that run/ran this country and influenced other dictatorships. Amazing how a few powerful men can influence the lives and economies of the world!
Reagonomics, Shock and Awe, trickle-down economics, neo-liberalism, globalization, global markets...it's all in this book!
I recommend this book for anyone who wants to organize on a grassroots level to make sure the doctrine of shocking our people into submission never happens again!

  Economics gone wrong
Review created: 11/02/08

I saw a broadcast of Naomi Klein from the University of Chicago, protesting the proposed multi-million dollar building to honor economist Milton Freidman. She is a dynamic speaker and advocate for human rights, therefore I purchased the book. It is not an easy read because it brings to light all the destruction wrought by the ruthless economic policies of Mr. Freidman and his devoted followers. Read it, weep, and then get out and vote and change the corporatist elements in our world.

  Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein
Review created: 09/07/08

Shock Doctrine is a captivating must-read. Naomi Klein manages to synthesize decades of global events and trends into this book full of keen connections, which is also very easy to read. Shock Doctrine explains how catastrophic events, both natural and man-made, have created opportunities for the public domain to be seized by privately owned corporations. You will be amazed (and probably outraged) by the big picture Klein is able to draw.

I love the clarity and research that has gone into this book, and a fluid writing style on a difficult subject. I decided to buy it after hearing reviews on radio programs, and because this is perhaps the premier book on how our country, and the world, really operate, and how it occurred.

Important to the future of the United States
Review created: 07/05/08

Corporations, whose mission is to profit, become our police and politicians. It's not the future, it just happened during the last 5 years. This should be the main topic of discussion in our culture, but I just found out after reading this book.
