  Great Sequel

Shining Force Two was the sequel to the original acclaimed Shining Force, and on the Genesis it sits basically alone, as one of the few great RPG's for this system.

The game is tactical "chess-board" style gameplay, with several battles and an interesting story, and its graphics, while bad by today's standard are clean and crisp, and the game does a good job of keeping the attention of the gamer. There are a few good tunes from the game, and the sound is okay, but not exactly astounding (hard to produce on a Genesis).

This game is different from its predecesor, Shining Force, but it is a good sequel, and one that does not require playing the first one to play. It comes highly recommended, is pretty valuable, and is downright fun to play. Aside from a few problems late in the game (where the linear nature of the game opens up a bit), the game works well, and should take an experienced gamer a while to play. If you still own a working Genesis and haven't played this game, or have, but no longer own it, pick up this game. It is easily worth 30-40 dollars, and can hold your attention for as many, if not more hours.

This is a great game! I first played it on sega channel in the mid-90's. Remember Sega Channel?! This game and its predecessor, the first Shining Force are what paved the way for the FF Tactics series! This is a great game in and out and I can only hope for the day this comes to xbox live arcade!!!

  Shining Force is awesome

The game's premise is simply gathering warriors together in "The Shining Force" and beating the game's objective. The game uses simple rules for grid like combat, but there is much strategy still.

Shining Force, Shining Force II and Shining Force CD are must plays if you have a Sega Genesis/Sega CD.

If you like strategy role playing games but don't want to memorize a novel in order to learn how to play it...you won't be disappointed.

the game plays great and it is nice to finally have the only thing I didn't like is that it took forever to get to me. Everything considered the game was worth it. Thank you very much.

  Shine on You Crazy Diamond

Pros:
Has the rare better sequel syndrome

Cons:
If Sir Astral wants to fight, why does he never join your team?

When I take a look back at all the video game consoles I've ever owned... Well, I haven't been that smart in some of my decisions. As if you couldn't tell from, oh, at least half of the games I've reviewed, I'm a hardcore Role-Player. But my 16-bit system of choice was the Genesis. It had plenty of great RPGs like Landstalker, Shining in the Darkness and a nice crop of others, but the Super NES owners clearly one-upped the Genesis owners with exclusive classics like Final Fantasy 2, Chrono Trigger (if they didn't re-release that one for the PlayStation, I would have gone mad with jealousy),...

Pros:
Improved class system and character balance...and dynamite music!

Cons:
Not sure that I could find any here.

Shining Force II is one of those games where you can tell right away that it's going to be awesome. Following up on its stellar (but somewhat limited) predecessor, SFII takes all of the good aspects from the old game (graphics, character specialties, class changes etc.) and improves upon them threefold. The storyline takes place on a different continent than the original Shining Force, albeit in the same world. The story is very engaging from beginning to end - a thief steals a valuable jewel from a tower on Grans Island, which sets off a disastrous chain of events that leads to the...
