Shepherds Abiding by Jan Karon (2003, Hardcover)

I love Jan Karon's books. She is able to identify with daily life situations and shines light into places that you think only you've experienced and felt pain. Then your realize that it is part of the human experience and others have felt the same way. She gently touches painful memories and helps you understand that you don't have to stay in the past but move forward to wholeness in Christ.

If you loved the Snowmen of Mitford or if you love any of the Karon novels about Mitford, you'll love this book. I believe that it is about to become a new classic Christmas tale. Seldom are nativity figures central in the plot of a novel. But it is the discovery of an old, old set of "Santos" or nativity figurines that start off a journey of self-exploration and a centering of the Christmas spirit on the original Reason for the Season.
Pros: A lovely tale. Well written as always with Jan Karon. Christian-centered tale without being overly maudlin.
Cons: I think you'd need be be a bit familiar with the Mitford series to fully "get" some of the nuances of this book.

This is the next-to-the last book in the delightful Mitford series by Jan Karon. Her character development is wonderful, the plot twists and turns are captivating, and she masterfully weaves faith truths throughout the book.

I purchased this book in a quest for all the Mitford series in hardcover because I know that I'll read them again and again. They are truly a delightful insight into small town America.

Along with Dicken’s "A Christmas Carol," rereading Jan Karon's "Shepherds Abiding" has become a Christmas tradition. Like the couple in O’Henry’s classic tale "The Gift of the Magi," Father Timothy and Cynthia Kavanagh show us what can be accomplished through love, with a little help from God.

The book was shipped promptly in excellent condition. I would buy again from this seller. I am very pleased to obtain books written by Jan Karon. I definetly would recommend this author to anyone who enjoys a wonderful story.

What a delightful Christmas book focusing on the gift of love...given by God...given by each of us to those dear to our hearts. It challenges the reader to sacrifice for others, and touches the reader to journey back to simpler times of holidays past. I will purchase these books as gifts for next Christmas, and cherish my own copy to reread any time of the year I need to remember the Christmas message.

This is a great book part of the Mitford Series by Jan Karon I now have all nine (9) books plus Home to Holly Hill. All of these books are really great could hardly wait to read the first one so I could keep reading the rest. Great writer hope she goes on with the Father Tim series

Mitford fans out there. Father Tim sets out to make a gift for his wife and gets into a huge project that warms his heart. I loved it!
