Shenmue II (Xbox, 2002)

I loved the first game on Dreamcast, and had to get the second game. I like the fact that it's a very diverse, indepth game that combines RPG elements, fighting, and puzzle/mystery solving. The characters and the story line immerses you into the universe in which the main character is in, making you feel as if you're really there. I was living in Japan at the time the first two games came out, so I could really identify with the architecture, culture, and people that are captured in this game. I hope they make a part III.

Shenmue 2 has alot going for it, but it may not be right for every player.
The game play is fairly slow, but utimatly rewarding. Shenmue 2 is a cross between many different game styles. It is basically an adventure/detective game with elements of an rpg and a fighting game.

Your charachter, Ryo, is a 20 somthing year old Japanese martial artist whose objective is to find the killer of his father. He must find clues by questioning people. During this process you will encounter qte's, and fight sequences. Qte's are quick time events. Bascially during a movie sequence you have to push corresponding buttons within a time period in order for your character to progress. The fight sequences are decent. Better than most hybrid games the fighting is based on the virtual fighter series.

The game is pretty big with 1000's of characters in it. The best part is the entire game has real voice actors. The voice acting is fair, some of it is really good, while others are bland and sometimes annoying.
This game takes at least 20mins to really start enjoying it so don't give up to soon. The game portrays a real enviroment with real weather and night and day. Computer characters have jobs and visit stores. The graphics may not be next gen but they are more than adequate and sometimes awesome.

I would defiently suggest buying this game if you enjoy adventure games or just want to try somthing different becuase there really isn't any game all that similar to this one.

*Also* With the newest patch Shenmue 2 works for the xbox 360.

When originally purchased I didnt get a shipment confirmation for about a week, but the product arived eventually and was just as described in the auction.

Shenmue is a game that says it all by itself!
History and perfect scenarios, causes the player to suffer and twist along with the characters.
This is a game that I will always play and I'm looking forward to the continuing since incredible game.

Good Game for its time. Although allot of my friends didn't like it, I got hooked with the first one from the Dreamcast.

Very good and was way ahead of its time. This is a classic that any fan of RPG, Action, Adventure, or just someone who enjoys good storytelling should check out.

I like this game because you can interact with people. You are in Hong Kong trying to navigate through the city to do different activities. When you talk to people to try to figure out how to get somewhere, they will take you where you want to go, but they walk extremely slow. So, you must have patience. I like that you can get different jobs to make extra money. It definitely takes some getting used to, but that's all part of the fun of the game.

i played shenmue 1 for the dreqamcas, and i've played this one before. but all in all this game is really fun, the only major disapointment is in the fact that there is no sequel

You must understand: This game is near-perfect. Kung-fu + RPG + QTE. It's just plain satisfying- besides the auxillary items from the plot, the characters you interact with have a rich background that makes you feel for and understand the character's personalities. It's like reading a good book, but you get to punch people in the head sometimes. For the original Xbox, a sequel to a sega game that was on the dreamcast. As a bonus, your character can actually visit arcades and play late 1980s sega video games. Afterburner and space harrier are two examples. There is even hidden bonus goodies! The duck race is not only lucrative, but akin to a modern horse race, with a paddock. Get this game.

Shenmue II is a great last generation game that has a martial arts theme and great storyline. In the begining of the game things may be unclear to the player who never played the first instalment of the game. Your character is seaching for the killer of his father and seeks answers in Hong Kong. I only rated this game good and not excellent because it is an older game and not up to todays standards of visual graphics.

I purchased it as a gift for Christmas and the person was very pleased. Those who are fans of the first Shenmue game will not be disappointed. For those who have yet to play I highly recommend giving this game a try.

I waited a long time to play this game. Six years to be exact but its still a great game compared to todays standards. And it works great on the 360, I didn't even have to download any special patches to make it work. Shenmue is still as addictive as the first DC chapter or maybe even more so. I like that you can choose what job you want to do for extra money and not just stuck with one like in the last game. This game has lots of things to do on the side when your taking a break from the main story whether it be playing games at the local arcade or gambling theres always lots to do, I just wish you didn't have an 11p.m. curfew like the last game. But don't get me wrong the main story is great too full of lots of twists and heart warming drama. Still a great game and compared to most next gen games on the market it dosen't show its age. Heres hoping for another sequel.

My god this game is so awesome!!! I love it because it is so beautiful and it is a big impact on your life. I really wish shenmue 3 will be released. One can only hope!

My older son had this game when he was a 9 or maybe 10 year old boy. He realy loved this game then. So when he saw it on ebay, all his childhood memories flooded back and he realy was excited to see that the game still existed. So I did the obvious and bought it for him. The game is here and he is sooooo looking after it. By the way he is 28 years old now.
This was the story of why I decide to buy Shenmue ll.

I completely love Shenmue II! I own the first game on DreamCast and now I finally get to finish the saga. If you have ever beat the first Shenmue, then the second is a must have. Even if you are new to the game, Shenmue II comes with a DVD that chronicles everything that happened during the first game. I definately recommend this game to anyone!

When S was released for now faded away Dreamcast-console,it got mixed review for a good reason.While it showed just how far technology had come in terms of building advanced and delailed playing enviroments with full of life,at the same time it proved how much work was still to be done to fully immerse players so that gaming would not feel like only a movie with some playable battles.It was like not keeping a promise,but claiming that the best was still yet to come and actually pointing out some of the highlighs.On some respect,Zelda games are still ahead of S as a RPG,despite having kind of inferior realization,if you know what mean.When building a game that is practically same as reality,it is going to be somewhat depressing!Personally I have played more enternaining RPGs than S,like already mentioned one.This is due the fact that some other RPGs offer far more choices instead of one path to follow,and while on S you could do small little things like buy a can of soda,you could rarely do any long term difference what so ever to anything.Same is true with the reality,but then again we play games because they tend to offer other things.It also felt,that nothing interesting sadly ever happened outside the cut-scenes."On-Rails Role Playing Real-life Simulation" is what S was and will always remain,and that alone made it as "boring" as real-life as you even had to go to work nearly every day to earn some cash!Some peoples hated it for that while others loved real-life alternative,or "Virtual Reality" as it`s usually called.Reality where absolutely no one changes their clothes despite how many months you spent there,for example.OK,admitedly S was way too ambitious for it`s own good,but it still managed to do most of the things that it did right and that is why it was success it is.But it has to be said,that if you can not do one single thing that the games story requires you to do,-finding Lan Di,you are going to be disapointed.Unfortunately,first game was released only as a movie clip as a part of the saga on the XBOX version of the S2,but i recommend to try that on SEGA`s console.What made things even worse,is that not only is it missing,second game is only port of the DC-version,but instead of giving Japanese speech you get English only,that is disapointment for fans as USA customers particulary has no option to even purchase DC-version instead,that is available on EU and Japan.This all means that XBOX-owners get more or less dumped down version,as you can not even use your existing game saves from the first game.However,it`s still nice to get even something from the legacy of DC,but it`s still true that these games shine differently on it,and should played on that machine.Having said all that,you might think that i absolutely hate S-games!That is not true,as this "V.F RPG" is still as close to combining movies and games together to "interactive movie" as any game has ever been.Period.Some efforts like Bouncer,or Berserk,not to even mention FMV-games just fail short when compared to S2 that really delivered what the first game only promised.It`s not only the story,it`s the Chinese culture that is so well presented on it.This is the game that is full of beautiful moments,things to explore,strong characters,captivating story of growing as a person,exiting battles,professional cutting edge biggest budget realization.-List just goes on.These as still unique games & get high recommention!I can hardly wait for Shenmue 3.GO BUY IT!

The game itself is amazing. I'm actually still playing and I cannot stop! I would have finished it by now but things such as life stop me. The graphics carry over just like the game did when it was on the dreamcast system.
