Sheltie Talk by Barbara Hagen Rieseberg, Betty J. McKinney (1985, Hardcover, Revised)

This is a seminal publication on Shetland Sheepdogs. It was written and last published in the 80's and while the recent bloodlines are missing from the work, it provides excellent care and handling and breed background information for the Sheltie fancier. Sheltie Talk was recommended to me by a top breeder in my area. I found the book to be a wealth of information that was thoroughly researched, well written and easy to read. It provides a depth of detail missing from most breed books. The health care section is especially informative and well done as are the discussions of temperament and training. I would recommend this book to any one interested in Shetland Sheepdogs. I have had Shelties since 1976 and I have a collection of breed specific books and this one takes pride of place.

Excellent book for newcomers to the breed, breeders and lovers of shetland sheepdogs. Historical as well as pedigree information, health concerns, grooming tips, and descriptions of the versatility of the breed. Even though it was originally published years ago, the information is still current.

The book is breed specific however it does include a lot of health information that trancscends to other breeds. Care of puppies and the growth process is included and fascinating.

We have had this book as part of our collection for many years. This is the SHELTIE BIBLE. Anything you ever wanted to know about the breed is within these pages. It is put together well with easy to understand information that is easily found and accessable. We raise shelties and this book is indispensible.

I have purchased three copies of this book. Two are for gifts to other sheltie lovers. If you have Shelties this is a must have book. It covers everything you need to know.

This is the best breed book ever written. A new addition is being promised in the near future, perhaps in 2009.

The most important book for ANY sheltie owner. It's just excellent, no wonder it's called "The sheltie bible", includes everything you should know about that wonderfull shetland sheepdog breed.

Love the book. It is filled with lots of informative information about the Breed of Sheltie. We reference it several times a week. We Purchased it Because we just Bought a Sheltie Puppy & wanted to know all we can about the Breed. Only thing I wish it would show with pictures how to attempt to control there Ears and how to properly Groom. All in all the cost of the book was worth the money spent.

I purchased this book because it is considered one of the best ever published about a dog breed I happen to own and care about. The price of the hardback copies had been prohibitive, but since this particular copy had some water damage, it was affordable. The seller was very informative and the shipping was prompt. I found the book to be a little more damaged than I had expected, but since I was obtaining it for information purposes, I still consider it a bargain.

Everyone in the Sheltie world said to get this book. It is everything that you wanted to know about Shelties. Easy to understand for the new Sheltie owner. Answers questions from what to buy to showing your Sheltie.

This book may not be the be all end all when it comes to Sheltie info, but it's close. Not to mention the fact that it's a fantastic coffee table book. This book definitely rates five stars for Shetland Sheepdog fanciers.
